AIBU to ask those of you who have been through this torture for your recipe/meal ideas post surgery?

I lived on scrambled egg and tins of spaghetti hoops. You can just suck them, no chewing needed.

paap you can cook congee down so the rice basically melts into the water and it's sort of smoothie texture - so no bits of rice to get stuck!

I need to go back and have my other one out. The first was done when I was pregnant and had morning sickness. I could only have paracetamol for the pain.

I found warm milk to be the only thing I wanted.

I could hardly open my mouth wide enough to get a teaspoon in. The main problem I had was swelling, not pain

Not rice, it gets stuck in the holes/stitches. Dental nurse had to pick it out!

I can't remember what I ate after but I do remember the pain was a lot easier than the pain of the infection! Mine made me so ill I looked like a drug addict it was awful.

Smoothies. I took two hours to eat a yoghurt the following day! I got sausages with mash and gravy which was amazing. My main problem was throwing up with painkillers!

SingingSands that's not filling me with joy! Shock Congee and angel delight sound good. We eat a lot of Asian food so good call!

Painkillers, water, painkillers, tea.
That was me for 3 days. Horrible impacted extraction, dentist had his foot on the chair like some awful cartoon character and drilled into a nerve trying to break up the tooth. I was so badly shaken up afterwards I crashed my car into a bollard leaving the sugery. Wish I'd been knocked out for it!

very asian thing to do but congee - chinese rice porridge. you can probably get some take out, or just make your own (think rice with lots of extra water, stock, maybe some other flavourings and then simmer away until it turns into rice porridge). it's super soft and goes down easy.

Some great ideas here thanks. DP having his done this week and mine is impacted but I haven't had a chance to get X-ray done and referred back so don't know when mine will happen but dentist said has to come out. Not bothering me at the moment though! Will get some prune juice in and gain some brownie points!

I had mine out (2 were impacted) under GA two months ago, I was dreading it and am dentist phobic. Honestly it's not that bad, I didn't get dry socket though. Felt slightly bruised for a week no sharp pain. On day of op I had painkillers and creamy pasta and ate all I normally do after day 1 just very slowly so I didn't go near the sockets.

Chocolate mousse, weetabix, bloody soup, scrambled eggs, quiche, baked beans.

To be honest, I could eat pretty much anything within a few days, I just had to chop it up well as I couldn't open my mouth particularly wide.

Take painkillers before they start, it's far easier than trying to take them afterwards.

Yes they were sore, but even the pain was better than feeling so ill with infections. Or projectile vomiting from the antibiotics.

Mousse! I had 6 out in one go. Was very lucky not to get dry sockets

Tramadol
Codeine

That's about all you need.

I had to have a soft food diet for six weeks after removal of an impacted wisdom tooth, adjacent tooth and associated cyst.

Would recommend:

Porridge
Cheesy mash
Cauliflower or broccoli cheese made with overcooked veg
Eggy bread
Fish pie/cottage pie
Yoghurt
Milkshake
Sandwiches made with soft bread and grated cheese, cream cheese or smooth peanut butter
Raspberries, bananas and other soft fruit
Cake and muffins Grin don't tell the dentist

Sounds calorific but I actually lost 4 kg because the effort involved in eating anything meant I didn't eat much.

Avoid rice, peas and seeds as they will get stuck in the cavity.

Sister had milkshake by the gallon.

Aargh do you have to have it out OP? I only had one out and looking back I don't think it was worth the post-op pain and grief
