To expect a refund?

This evening i ordered tickets through eventim which is a booking site for Disney on ice in October. The booking site rushes you and gives you a very short space of time to confirm your booking and make payment.

I chose the date i wanted but the time i looked at gave me seats that the site had selected for me so i went back to look at a later time and found how to select my own seats.

Went through the booking and has 2 mins (there was a count down timer) to check the booking, enter my address and card details.

I very quickly scanned the booking and entered my details and with 2 seconds to go i clicked pay now.

Moments later when i looked at the confirmation in detail i had been charged for the show were they had selected seats for me and the show i wanted resulting in a £92 over payment!!

I very quickly rang the customer services to be informed that it was non refundable and it doesnt matter whether it was done in error as it clearly said tickets are non refundable. She said she would put a request through to head office but in her experience they do not refund.

I then contacted my bank who inform me i have to wait for the money to leave my account and then dispute it which takes time etc.

Aibu to expect a refund? Im so fucking cross with myself!

Good news OP. And very reasonable by eventim

Your right about the count down timer starting when the first lot of tickets went in. I still think 8 minutes is not alot of time to check everything, enter your name, adress, telephone number, then you have to create an account with them and put your card details in!

I had an email off them an hour again saying they are refunding the first lot of tickets so im very relieved about that! It doesnt mention anything about whether the booking fees are included in the refund though

In fairness it is easy to do, especially once you start selecting seats in different areas. I'm not sure many of us could afford to stand that sort of money lost. Op if you're still reading I still think your best bet may be ringing the venue and pleading for help.

You only had two minutes because the timer would have started counting down from the moment that the first lot of tickets (the ones selected for you) went into your basket. You then used some of the 8 minutes selecting your own seats and only had 2 mins left by the time you had done that.

For most people, 8 minutes is plenty of time to check before confirming. Didn't you even check the total cost at the bottom?

The checkout time is not 2 minutes, it is 8 minutes. Once you put the first tickets in your basket the counter started, hence why you panicked at the end. Having said that, it is very clear on their website how many and which tickets you have booked, the total price is listed a couple of times on the page and you should have seen it when you were on the payment page as well. It would be nice if they gave you a refund but they are not under any obligation to do so. If there are lots of tickets available, I'm not sure why you were panicking about the time running out? You could have just started again.

I've just done it to check and it is 8 minutes - check the countdown timer in the top right hand corner

lionheart it absolutely could, mobility issues who rely on navigating through switch technology or tabbing, blind or low vision people using screen reader users which will read all the content to them as well as people with reading issues like dyslexia.
Whilst some websites, like financial ones, do need a time out for security it must have the option to extend your log in session to be accessible. For companies that insist on these practices (don't get me started on CAPTCHA) they must implement them in a way that doesn't exclude users, or in the OP case rush them to make an incorrect purchase especially when their follow up 'support' is so poor

Yes, I was wondering about the count-down too. Does that mean the site excludes people with mobility issues?

Report

Are you sure it was only 2 minutes? I bought tickets with Eventim last week and it was more like 8 minutes?

Report
ClarkL · 16/08/2016 10:14

To have a timeout of 2 minutes really is unfair, there should always be an option to extend the booking time so people can check the booking they've made, also what about older people, people who aren't as confident online, not quick readers or use assistive technology (screen readers, speech software) that may slow them down?
Websites need to stop using these countdowns to rush people through, its a poor customer user journey and potentially discriminatory

Personally I think no. You messed up and tickets are non refundable so you shouldn't be offered a refund

Yeah - because I bet this would be EXACTLY your position if you had made this entirely understandable mistake Hmm

Mine was Nottingham Ice arena by the way. (I'm going to frozen there too) so you may be at the same venue and they were helpful.

I did exactly the same with very expensive priority seats and meal tickets for Mrs browns boys. Spent over £400 instead of £200. I rang the ice arena and they refunded in full without quibbling. I'm 99% sure it was through eventim but I then rang the venue direct to resolve.

You're unlikely to win a dispute with your bank. They'll ask for proof that the transaction is legitimate, the company will provide the order details. There's nothing wrong with the transaction, as such - it's not fraudulent, they haven't taken more than you agreed.

I'd call the tickets place back and nicely explain what has happened until you find someone willing to refund you the face value of the tickets. It may take some time, especially if the shows are unpopular so reselling those tickets is unlikely.

Its no where near sold out there were plenty of tickets left - its Disney on ice Frozen so not everyones cup of tea!

I ve never booked these type of tickets before someone else has always booked for me who i was going with.

Its a stressful experience

I don't use these sites, but if they have not given you the seats you booked, can you not argue your case using that reason?

Report
Queenbean · 16/08/2016 09:54

To be fair, they give you enough time to read the ts&cs and check all details

It does feel rushed but the onus is on you to check the details are correct. Otherwise you're blocking the same of other people getting those tickets.

The other thing you can try is seatwave or stubhub and sell them on - for sold out events you can make a profit

The timing thing is fairly standard on all ticket booking sites.
They are NBU if they chose to not refund you as it was your error, but would hope they do as wasp says. Especially as you have actually bought tickets from them abs only want to refund the duplicates.
It must happen a lot.

Report
AppleJac · 16/08/2016 09:43

They give you such a short space of time to check out so other people can buy those seats if you dont check out fast enough.

If you dont check out within the time it wants you to then it takes the tickets out of your basket and then you have to find them again and go through the whole process again.

In your shoes I would definitely not be willing to write off £92.

YANBU if you are only given 2 minutes to enter details and check out. Why are they doing this? It sounds like they are purposely trying to encourage people to make errors which work out in their favour. I think it would be disgusting for them not to give you a refund under the circumstances tbh.

Have you tried putting it on Twitter?

Report
AppleJac · 16/08/2016 09:22

Well they dispute it with the company who took the money and see whos favour to decide in. I have a feeling they will decide with the company as they have it on their website that tickets are non refundable.

I cant believe i ve been so careless and really cant afford to just say goodbye to £92

while this is true, it won't take aslong as you think. A day or two most likely. As soon as it shows on your statement, the bank should refund it by the end of the day you contact them. or this was the advice that was given to me some months back about something quite similar, and it turned out I did infact get a refund as soon as it showed the company name on the account.
