To take up two parking spaces?

Over the past 6 months i have noticed scuff marks (the kind you get when someone has opened their car door too wide and hit my door) today i noticed a dent and massive white scuff on my left passenger door. No note was left behind and because i can't prove when it happened the police aren't doing anything about it (took my details, checked my insurance policy then left) I always make sure i don't park too close to neighbouring cars and when i have dd with me i use parent and child parking. I also always make sure i keep a hand on my door (if the weather is especially windy) so i don't hit anyones car but i am getting so fed up with spending money on repairs and taking my time with t cut to get the scuff marks out. Im on a low income so can't afford to keep spending money on repairs when it could be avoided. I know i will probably come across as a massive idiot but if i find two spaces that are quite some way away from the shop entrance (as no one really parks there or go to the shop when its quiet) then it should be ok? It's very upsetting when you spend money on something nice and then someone damages your property and doesn't even apologise.

My solution is to always park on the end of a row if at all possible. Then I can park right on the line on the side where I'm guaranteed to have no car next to me, leaving a larger gap on the other side.

Not sure whats so wrong with having a big car? If you're travelling with adults then you need a big car or everyone ends up sitting on top of each other.

In car parks there is usually a sign saying if you don't comply with their rules you can be fined. Parking over two spaces is usually included in that.

If you really had to see the CCTV then you needed to have contacted the store.

A few months ago someone wrote off my car by hitting it when it was parked (yes, really. It was a classic car too)
The police didn't look into it for over a week, and only because it was such a major crash did they give a shit at all.

Someone may already have asked you but how massive is your car? I was parked between two enormous BMW's and it was actually impossible to open the doors, we had to leave. We were all within the white lines but both were so enormous that it meant they were leaving themselves open to people bumping them with their doors as they were filling the entire parking space with their huge penis extention.

I know someone who tells me parking spaces are getting smaller and she's had enough, its such a hardship for her. She drives a RANGE ROVER in the city, but yeah, it's totally everything around you getting smaller rather than the car you drive being too big for purpose.

Just park right at the back of the car park, problem mostly solved! Parking over 2 spaces is ver unreasonable.

I have a Ford Galaxy and always park at the far end, or the very top of multi storey car parks. I know I've got a big car and it's a pain to wedge in to spaces so I try and steer clear of other people where possible.

Take up 2 spaces as long as you park near the back in a mostly empty car park.

YABU to do it in a busy car park, or near the entrance.

YAB-foolish to repair scratches and dents when you're on a low income.

This pisses me off too, but I wouldn't take two spaces. I try and park next to a new/expensive car or just in the less busy part of a car park, ideally in an end space.
I left my two boys (10&6) in the car the other week while I got a ticket from the machine. When I got back the oldest told me the man in the car next to me had hit my door with his when getting out. There was no mark this time luckily, but just shows the lack of respect some people have for other people's property. I've had my car almost 3 years now and it has been damaged 3 times by other people who have just driven off and left it. I got it repaired the first time, but haven't bothered after that. Pisses me off every time I look at it

Sorry if that annoys people but I'm fed up of making such an effort to be able to get my child in and out only to have some idiot park inconsiderately. Always plenty of other spaces. Also have recently become a victim of those shitty people who don't seem to look when they are opening car doors. Hope Mercedes accept the dent as wear and tear when I return the car in 2 years.

I'm questioning whether many people here have never tried parking away from other cars. You go as far from the entrance as possible into the emptiest part of the car park and you will ALWAYS get some arsehole who decides to park tightly right next to you, making it impossible to get in, never mind put your baby in their car seat. I park in 2 spaces now for that very reason.

HeddaLettuce its not slightly damaged. Its a huge dent and is very noticeable. There is cctv all over that car park they are going to view it to see if the persons details are on it so that we can do what is right.

Lucked its not that hard. My dds harness can be unclipped with one hand, she can take her own arms out and i can lift her out with one arm/hand.

Just park in be f the furthest away space (in one space) someone will only park next to you if it is the last space so unfair to park in two spaces.

I drive a huge car and there aren't many parent and child spaces so I just park at the far away spaces, always lots of room.

How do you keep a hand on the door, unclip a child and lift them out? I sometimes rest my jacket between the two cars if the door is going to touch but if the other car is really dirty I just place it very carefully.

I think my cars worth more than £60 😂 and no i don't own a smart car. I only reported it to the police so they could view the cctv and then we could do the appropriate thing.

80% of the time I parking a wide disabled space as I have DS with me who has a blue badge and I still get trolley badges!
It's just people at supermarkets who CBA.
You are being very OTT and you've probably spent more repairing the car that it's resale value !

Don't think it's a police matter as no one was injured and it being on private land I assume due to signage rather than a council car park. Extremely rude to take up 2 spaces. Every car is precious. What sort of car is it ? Is it ridiculously particularly wide?

I love our new Sainsbury's car park markings. Each space divided by double lines on each side ensuring everyone parks in the middle. Tis fab 😊

Everybody's car is important to them whether it is worth £500 or £50,000 and nobody wants dings and scuffs on their doors. What makes your car so special? What if everybody decided they were going to park across two spaces? When I see a car parked across two spaces it drives me mad because it's like that person is saying 'I'm a douche who thinks that my car is worth so much more than yours'.

Also I think you risk getting a fine in a lot of places.
