AIBU?

AIBU to be annoyed at my mum?

This is going to sound very petty and materialistic. I am very aware of that but its more the principal that gets me.
I have been after a pair of shoes for months, not because I am shoe mad or anything but for sentimental reasons. Said shoes are very rare and SO SO hard to get hold of. A pair came up in my size and I was ready to buy them, financially it was doable but a bit of a push. My mum offered to buy them for me and let me pay her back when I was more easily able to (I must say, I didn't ask. Not even a hint!) I very gratefully accepted her offer and she bought the shoes. They were delivered yesterday and she has now decided that actually she likes them and will be keeping them herself.
I am so upset because not only not going to not get them now, I won't want another pair because the sentimental reason behind them is ruined. She fully understood why I wanted them and how long I had been trying to get them. She wouldnt even know they existed if I hadnt told her I wanted them. I know there are more important things in life but I dont get why my own mum would take away something important to me just because she felt like it.

She's out of order, I hope you know that by now 😀
I'd be plotting revenge, shoes, pandas, panda shoes, plenty of scope for Christmas presents. Best of all a pair of fugly shoes with pandas badly selotapes around the heels, half a size too small?

I'm so sorry you have a mother like that, it is beyond me how some people treat their children. How about you adopt a Panda from WWF, that would be something nice to share with your own DC.

I think you did fine BrewCake

She has weird competitive jealousy about her own daughter. That's not ok. It's like she sees you and anything you want and decides, "I must be centre of the universe and I must take stuff away from my daughter"

Ugh.

I also may have lost my temper and told her that I hope they rip her feet to shreds and that she breaks an ankle in them 😩
In my defense this was after her outright refusal to accept that she had done anything wrong!

I am already on the selling page, so is my mother! 😡 Shall I out her for her cruel behaviour? Can you kick her off the group for me? 😂

Hi OP, I am a massive IC fan and help to run an IC selling page on FB that has over 27000 members. Head over to our page (irregular choice buy sell worship), you can get second hand IC shoes there cheaper than retail if you want to join.

I have those shoes (they're called Yang Guang). They come up VERY small so there is a massive chance they will rip the ever living fuck out of her feet so hopefully that will be some consolation. There are more IC panda heels styles out there. Some of the IC stockists in China may have some styles left actually?

That's so nasty!!! Sort of thing my SM would have done, I'm NC with her.

she just told me that 'it's just shoes' and that I am being silly. I told her if minimising my feelings makes her feel better about what she did then fine.

Great comeback. Good for you for saying something.

Ooh those ModCloth ones are actually really cute! Get those OP!! They won't rip your feet to shreds, have the panda thing and also are totally different to the ones your witch of a mother is now parading around in.

You were right to say something. Really op, YADNBU. She sounds cruel. Agree with previous poster, you need to censor what you tell her.

I couldn't help myself. I had to speak to her on the phone as we have stuff going on regarding my grandmas care. I told her that I hope they rip her feet to shreds and that she will look ridiculous in them. More importantly I told her how her actions had made me feel and she just told me that 'it's just shoes' and that I am being silly. I told her if minimising my feelings makes her feel better about what she did then fine. I've not heard from her since and that was Saturday morning. I know now she will just avoid me rather than make any attempt at an apology. Why do people have to be so disappointing?

OP there's a woman on Facebook who custom paints Converse - her page is something twee, think its Twinkle Toez by Terri - but she's very very good and I think Converse painted with panda mum and her 3 panda babies would look fantastic!

OP you may not be able to go NC with your mother, but you will have to start withholding information from her. She was able to manipulate this situation and exploit your emotions because you allowed her to have certain precious information about yourself (I really love/want x... I just can't afford x...).

She can't be trusted with this stuff, as it just gives her ammunition against you, sadly. Keeping stuff to yourself will give you some power back.

You can console yourself with the fact that she now has an expensive pair of shoes representing an actual 3D, concrete image of the loving relationship that you have with your own children, but that couldn't be further from her actions towards her own child.

That was a really really horrible thing to do.

I would see her significantly less after this. Absolutely awful of her.

YANBU in the slightest, nor do you sound petty or materialistic. That was a very mean act of your mother's, taking something that she had promised you for herself when the sentimentality behind it relates to you and your children and has nothing to do with her.

That said the shoes you posted a pic of are reasonably appalling and she has given you a lucky escape :) I do like the ones that travellinglighter linked though!

I also think you should call her out on it properly, as suggested by RhiWrites. And then go for the coolandcalm Christmas revenge. And then go completely NC unless she gets her act together.
