AIBU?

To wake baby for a drink?

Never posted in AIBH before but thought it gets high traffic and looking for quick replies! :) my baby is 23 weeks and has just started sleeping through around 9 hours a night. Probably 10 hours from her last feed as she takes a while to drop off. First time nervous mum. Her room is very hot (about 25 degrees). I've got the door open and windows open all through the house to get a breeze going, and she is just in a vest and 1 tog sleep sack. I'm nervous about her getting thirsty but also nervous about encouraging night feeds again when she has only just started dropping them! So should I wake her before I go to bed for one last feed or should I trust that she'll wake and cry if she's thirsty??

We're currently in a cab on the way to the airport and little one is rocking her nappy in the car seat! I'm hoping the heat will finally knock her out as she's barely slept and I don't want a melt down on the flight!! Confused

Hope you both managed to sleep!
My little one didn't wear anything apart from a nappy all day yesterday, and it looks like it's going to be the same today.

Actually fed her in Costa while I was waiting to pick DD1 up from school yesterday. Draped her in a muslin, but still naked (was lovely to feel her skin next to mine) and 2 women actually came up and said poor thing/suffering in this heat/how great it was she had no clothes on in this weather! Smile

I'm actually pretty jealous that I can't get away with just wearing pants...Grin

My 5 week old baby is currently asleep in his bedside cot wearing just a nappy and has only worn nappies all day today and still been roasting bless him. Can't imagine putting clothes on him today it's been 32c here in the Fylde!

Our nine month old is just in his nappy!

Young babies are far better at keeping warm than they are at cooling down. Much better for them to be slightly cold than hot. They can't sweat properly but have an extra insulating layer of brown fat to keep warm.

You're being ridiculous! In the nicest way possible. 23 is roasting. They will be fine.

Yep if she's cold she'll let you know about it. Nappy and muslin sounds fine. Hope you get some sleep!

Haha yes you are being ridiculous but I was exactly the same when dd was your little one's age!

She will be fine! Cool to touch is ok! Enjoy some rest

So if anyone is still watching... Tonight have DD in a different room as nursery is insanely hot. It's the coolest room in the house but monitor still says 23. Have her in nappy and muslin tucked in covering her legs or she kicks herself away. Had fan on but now turned off as I'm going to bed. She feels cool to the touch. Now I'm worried about her getting cold!! Grin I'm being ridiculous right? If she's cold she'll wake up and I'll put her sleep bag or a vest on her?? DH not home so no one here to tell me I'm being a worrier ;)

Another one with a baby in just a nappy tonight.
Actually been in just a nappy all day, apart from the school run, and still looked like a little fat tomato.

Babies all over the world sleep in much hotter conditions than this. She will be fine, and will wake if thirsty. You will probably find DD feeds more in the next couple of days due to the heat.

Even in the Australian summer my son slept with a 0.5T sleeping bag, although usually only with a sleeveless vest or just nappy on. He survived with a ceiling fan but no air con. As did we all.

oops, cross post. No risk if it's not there!

Just make sure that there is no way she can pull the undone sleeping bag up over her face.

I've removed the gro bag entirely now! I'm sure she'll be quick to let me know if she gets chilly anyway which seems highly unlikely!!

I have 23 week old twins, (who don't sleep through - at best they alternate Grin allowing me to feed and snooze!).

They are currently just in nappies. When they wake (which they will) I may put them in gro bags (no vest or sleep suit). However I have a window at the front and back of my bedroom (they are in with us) so there is a bit of a breeze.

Oh sorry I misread! You mean her room is that hot anyway not that you were keeping it that temp! Just ignore my previous post!

I just snuck in and she didn't actually feel too hot. I've undone the sleeping bag but left it over her so if she gets hot and wiggles it'll come off!! Will check on her again when DH comes home from work. Thanks for all the replies :)

Do you have it that temp all night? Because that's v warm and with the sleep sac and vest too she could be overheating. I'd be surprised if she wasn't thirsty, she's probably boiling!

I'm another with my two dd's only in nappies tonight, I put a pair of pants on them too just to hold it in place if they somehow undo the tags.

I wouldn't worry about the drink.

I would say she'll wake if she's thirsty.
I would take the sleeping beg off my Ds is in only his nappy tonight

This is not a direct answer, but we decided to buy a cheap air conditioner from home base when we had our DD. It has been amazing, we put it on for a few hours (between 6 and 10 last night). And it brings the temperature down to around 20. I makes for happier baby and happier us. I am aware they use a lot of electricity, but for a few hours on these hot days it makes us all sleep and happier.
So people think we are mad, but we all get a good nights sleep and piece of mind and so we think it's priceless!
