We were watching GOT and there's a man in it that I fancy like crazy, at one point this man turns around & his face has changed completely.

I said:
'He reminded me of you when we first met before he turned around, if that WERE you he'd have turned around & been bald with glasses.'

He never makes me feel good and in that show there are beautiful naked women everywhere & I think because it makes me feel conscious of my own approaching 40, fat, pregnancy & surgery scarred body (& I can see DH enjoying the sights) I was spiteful.

I've really upset him.

"You've not only insulted your DH but You have insulted anyone with glasses or eye impairments, as well as those who have conditions that causes them to lose their hair. Yes you should feel ashamed."

What utter nonsense Hmm

I have not, it's not a specific hair or glasses complaint, it was pointing out that he looks completely different now. (like we all probably do Sad) Just like he would if he'd dyed his hair or grown an enormous beard then I would've been reeeally mean about that instead Hmm

Yes you should feel ashamed.

YesAnastasia I am extremely sensitive when it comes to this topic as I have a gorgeous three year old DD who wears glasses and it'd break my heart if it ever impacted negatively on her self-esteem, and a 38 year old DH who believes he'd be better looking if only he had hair Hmm

I'm glad you feel rotten Wink please share your own insecurities with your DH - I'm sure he'd really appreciate it Wine x

havingkittens I know, I hate that Sad Like that even matters anyway, I'm blind as a bat too!!! It was a dig because he looks so different now, that's all & it doesn't matter.

oldLaundBooth Doesn't he? That half smile & those eyes...

He's so so gorgeous, but you can keep him SaucyJack - I've got a very sexy husband ;) For now Blush

That was really mean. You wouldn't like it if he had said the same but said that you were 'an old chubby mess'. You should be grovelling OP.....

ClopySow the OP has admitted that she made a 'reeeeally mean comment' - her glasses comment was vindictive, not just a statement

branofthemist · 11/07/2016 14:26

Oh dear. Apologise and be very nice to him.

If he had said similar to you about one of the women, as a joke, how would you want him to make it up to?

We have all said something that sounded funny in our head, then goes down like a lead balloon. It happens to all of us.

MunchCrunch01 · 11/07/2016 14:17

at least you compared him to someone good looking! Seriously, you have to grovel, groveeeel! I do understand, I've said horrible things when I've felt hurt, as has my DH to me for the same reason, doesn't mean it's right or mature though. You can explain, but you can't take it back.

owllady No, I think Harry Hill might've found it funny.

acasualobserver At least he didn't reply, "You're no Mother of Dragons yourself, love." I WOULD HAVE LAUGHED!!!

I think you just need to apologise. If it had been reversed, you know how you'd be feeling? Just nip orbit the bud

My DC wears glasses, and is no less beautiful with them on. You made a statement that implied that your DH's looks are hampered by his glasses - what a horrible thing to imply

No she didn't. She stated he wore glasses.

IceRoadDucker · 11/07/2016 13:51

Aw. It was mean and you know it but I'm sure we've all misjudged a jokey insult. There's a running joke among my colleagues about hairlines and I can see myself doing it in less accepting company because I'm so used to it.

Just do something kind for him and make sure you show you still fancy him Smile

Also, my DH is bald, and has been since he was in his late teens, and is still self-conscious about it, 20 years on. Baldness can be attributed to a lot of testosterone and super virility - which seems to be true in our case - and I wouldn't change his looks for the world.

Please apologise to your DH, LET HIM KNOW YOU STILL FANCY HIM and in future try not to disguise your insecurities in the form of hurtful words aimed at your (poor) DH, however lighthearted you intended the comments to be Hmm

Just apologise, explain that you were feeling a bit insecure that day and admit that you were out of line. Then give him a snog to show him that you do fancy him Smile.

Haha Grin

OP it was a mean thing to say but I believe you when you say you thought he'd laugh. I have a black/scathing soh myself. It's terrible when it goes wrong. Blush

You can only apologise. xx

Now he'll start wearing contacts and get a badly-fitting wig and it'll be all your fault, OP Grin

Seriously though, maybe you could have a heart-to-heart about how you are mortified about this comment just surging forth from your mouth. How you don't think of his appearance negatively at all and how it all stems from how you are feeling about yourself. You will probably both end up reassuring each other and moving on from this.
