To be annoyed a friend called her baby the same as mine?

So a girl I worked with for 3 years (in a small team), who I've kept in touch with and we have mutual friends has called her baby the exact same name as mine. Both first and middle name. They are 9 months apart. It's quite an unusual name too. I feel really annoyed that my daughter had lost her originality somehow?!

but don't worry - your daughter's name is still beautiful and special and it shouldnt be an issue if you move in different circles to the other lady.
when your DD's older you can laugh about this anyway.

I can see it is annoying but it happens. When I had my eldest daughter I gave her a name I liked and it didn't occur to me until afterwards that 3 of my childhood friends have named their daughter that! We're not really in touch but were very close in our teens and even worked together outside school :) I have since moved areas and do not know another child (over three local schools) with this name, while my next child, who has an unusual name, knows two or three with the same name. Very odd. As for my youngest name, apparantly is now one of the most popular for names in my area and I thought that was unusual when I chose it!

I thought you named children for themselves, not so the parents could get creds for being "original".

It always makes me laugh when someone thinks they are being very unusual and then another one turns up in the same class at school

A friend of mine did this - they even picked a name from another culture, and then pitched up at school to discover a family from that culture had moved to the area with a child with the same name

I think my daughters have the most beautiful names in the world. If someone else thinks they are too I couldn't begrudge them using them too.

One of my dds has a name that isn't even in the top 1000, in fact when I looked up how many babies that year had be born with that first name it was under ten. Yet I nicked an adults friends name as I couldn't find another name I liked more (dd3 lol) so we asked her then made her godmother. She was flattered! Different middle name though.

I had 2 friends at school with the same first name as me. We were always grouped together. I had guaranteed friends all through school cos people associated us together! Still fb friends now. Still like them!

OP I really think you'd get more of a realistic response if you mention a name similar in popularity to yours? So if your DD is Amber Rose say it's as popular as Violet Ivy, etc

Unless you're gonna tell us that your DD is called Charlotte Leigh or something else that's not unusual... Then I'd avoid thread at all costs

My name and middle name is the same as a lot of girls born in my year of birth. My mother admits that she scanned The Times BMD column and this name combo jumped out so that's why I have my non-unique name.

I do quite like the person who innocently started this trend though, she has a v similar name and is famous for being her. People named their girls after her and changed one letter of the name. I prefer the original but hey ho.
