WTAF am I meant to do with it??

Ds (who is 3 by the way, more into paw patrol, tantrums and using my couch as his trampoline) was given one recently by an aunty. Its green and its still in the box, she keeps asking him if he's used it and he stares at her bewildered, my expression is not much different if im honest.

So what the hell do it do with it (apart from put it in the bin). 2 mums from ds's nursery have also started trying to add me to their business page on fb, they make and sell these doors apparently and i've heard a rumour they attend craft fairs dressed up in green tu tu's.

Are people really able to make a living from tiny badly painted bits of wood nowadays? If so Ill have a go at that, rather than the night shift im on tonight

My DD 'found' hers after DH bought one and attached it to the skirting board in her bedroom. She freaked and asked if it was a portal to another world. He then had to chisel it off causing a load of bloody mess!

My DH spent half an hour this Christmas Eve in a wood that only we seem to know about (I've been walking there since childhood and never seen a soul). He was sticking a fairy door onto a tree trunk and scattering tiny gardening tools at the base of the tree.

Our DD's excitement when she 'found' it all far outstripped anything Santa-related.

We built a little fire in the 'fairy' fire pit, toasted marshmallows, and talked in whispers.

DD is not a girly girl but fairies are whatever you imagine them to be.

We used ours when the tooth fairy forgot to come and then the time the tooth fairy came but left the tooth in the room. .. Our tooth fairy is very tired so sometimes needs a second chance. Dd writes notes to the fairies and when dc do special things they get tiny gifts. Also when dc are going through a bad patch with sleeping, fairies send notes reminding them to be good or of encouragement when they're struggling. Eg dear mini dragons,

Basically we use it as a parenting tool when everything else fails. A friend seems to be obsessed though and has a fb page dedicated to it, such I find weird. She also loves elf on a shelf which I really hate - competely irrational hatred.

I see the point of them being to bring magic into the life of a small child. However with our track record if I stuck one on wall we'd come home to find the fairies robbed us blind. Dog would probably rip it off wall and eat it too.

I've seen one at a friend's house we visited. They had two little girls who loved it. The little girls would leave little notes or gifts for the fairy sometimes, and the next day/time they went it had gone and sometimes they got notes and tiny gifts back. They also left there teeth there for the tooth flory to collect.

It was just cute imaginary play.

Looking at those elves on the link just made me thing I'd have been REALLY annoyed if the grown ups could have seen my imagined friends and dabbled in my imaginary play

I think they're lovely. DD went through a phase of leaving food out for the fairies as well as leaving notes for them. On the back of the door appearing she also built a fairy garden complete with bunting saying "Fairies Welcome". Great way to stimulate the imagination if you ask me. she also plays with lego, plays in the garden, with her imaginary friends and creates mountains of craft stuff.

Guess some kids and adults will love them others will hate them. Wouldn't do if we all liked the same stuff!

They are for little children. I teach reception children and we had one appear in our class after some little letters appeared for the children. It was amazing for children's imaginations and to get then to write. Occasionally letters appear for the children asking for specific things for the children to do.

They are amazing for children's imagination and creativity. Like loud of other toys.
