Well, its started....
my feet are freezing cold once more, as the winter begins. and they'll stay like that till next summer. except when i'm in bed, with the electric blanket on.
no medical problems, central heating is on, i just have really cold feet.
i wear socks and slippers all the time.
any recommendations for footwear/socks/anything that will stop my feet feeling like two blocks of ice?

Celtic sheepskin sleepers. They are expensive (£60) but amazing. I love them!

I have the exact same problem. Could it be a minor form of Raynauds Disease? I find that if I wear leather boots/shoes and double up my socks (with thermal socks or boot socks) it helps a lot. Try taking a vasodilator such as niacin (be warned, it can make you feel very hot from the flush).

Thermal vest is a must, as previous posters have said - if your body thinks it can't make enough heat for all of you, it prioritises your core (to protect your organs) and restricts flow to the extremities. Then add in some real sheepskin slippers, and you'll be giving yourself the best chance :-)

I have a paraffin wax bath to help with achy joints in hands and feet and the heat is absolutely wonderful and seems to really penetrate.

yeah - i rarely wear socks in summer, unless it gets unseasonably cold - which it didn't this summer.

i'm VERY susceptible to changes in temperature.
very easily overheated in summer.
and a perisher in winter.

I strongly recommend a pair of these

With a pair of these on top

I have crappy circulation causing freezing hands and feet and an illness which means I move around very little, so overall I get very cold feet and chilblains if I'm not careful. Combining those two works very well!

Thyroid problem so was always cold.
Thyroid can be affected by pregnancy.
I wear sports socks.
Im amazed that the op can go sockless in summer but is cold in winter. I cant really imagine it even in summer.

I have a hot water bottle on me at all times and if I really can't get warm I blast my face with my hair dryer.

I have Raynauds too.

Weirdly, it went away completely when I was pregnant with DS (in that -12 winter of 2010) and has been much better since (though gradually getting worse).

Currently pregnant again and hoping maybe this one cures it?! Or at least maybe we could get another deep winter over?

Maybe pregnancy is a strategy the OP is willing to try?! Wink

I have Raynauds so this is my life even in summer sometimes! I wear thermal socks, sometimes with trainer or liner socks underneath. Ugg slippers for inside or snow boots/ugg style boots for outside. I also wear wicking sports socks at night, enough to keep me warm but enough airflow so I don't get stuck in that feet in/feet out/feet in/feet out cycle.

When it gets really really cold those heat holders are great, especially with a liner sock and snow boots.

The best thing you can do though is keep them moving, even when you're seated.

I urge you all to buy the merino wool socks from Costco. Wearing them has been a revelation. first time in living memory I haven't had frozen feet by October.

I'm always cold with freezing feet. The thing that makes all thr differenec for me is tadaaa: leg warmers. I go to bed with them and it is the only time that I have warm feet (even in the summer my feet are cold). I am also generally warmer when I have them on, no wool vest or socks have had such an effect.

No idea why.

We have tiles, laminate, that proper wood click flooring in ours. The wood is a bit better but the rest is quite cold.

What do you wear usually?

So far this year I have found my cheapish Tesco bootie slippers warm enough on their own, or with fluffy socks underneath. Tonight I have them on and still have cold feet, despite having the gas fire on and a blanket. I did dig out my winter clothes and walking stuff this weekend and will have my tent mules and thermal socks on standby.

I was in brantano earlier and they had some slipper boots that had amazingly cushioned soles. Not the best looking creatures and didnt try them on but

www.brantano.co.uk/ladies/slippers/ladies-ladies-slippers-slipper-boots-autumn-winter-new-season-styles-taupe-isotoner-2696410144

Not necessarily for this thread but they may suit somone who wants some arch support and padding underneath.

I frequently wear my ugg baileys around the house, they're never that dirty becuase I dont wear them out in fields etc we have hard flooring throught our house so dont have to worry about carpet Maybe a cheaper version, or cheap snow boots would do? Just to wear inside, not big clompy will grip on a glacier ones.

I bought some really nice uggs in the sale last year and wore them for the first time today - very nice! I have ugg slippers too - toasty

Report
Tarzanlovesgaby · 25/10/2015 22:04

do you were tight leggings or tights that might constrict bloodflow to your feet?

Report
trollkonor · 25/10/2015 22:01

North face tent slippers are fantastic, wear with thermal longish socks. One of the main things to consider is whats on the sole, everything else in the sock or slipper may be snuggly but if the sole isnt insulated enough you may still feel the cold. Or you could try layering, silk socks, under thermal, then into slippers with a reasonable sole for walking about. You still need to be able to move your feet and toes though Grin . Even when cold breathable fibres are better than sweat inducing, otherwise you get cold clammy feet encased in a fluffy prison.

Do you have laminate or tiled flooring?

Try wearing a pair of tights with a pair of socks over the top (regardless of skirts or trousers). That really helps me - and keeping my core warm. I'm a great fan of strappy vests.

Just had a thought.

It's also important to keep your core warm or your body will constrict the blood vessels in the extremities to minimise heat loss - this will make them feel colder.

Invest in merino base-layers and a decent synthetic fill coat (expect to pay around £300 for a properly warm & waterproof one). They should last if you look after them (my jacket was reduced from £300 four years ago and is still brilliant!)

I'm also the same. Once the temperature drops below about 21°C, I have permanently cold extremities. Once I'm cold, no amount of clothing will help warm me up and I either have to apply a hot water bottle or get into a hot bath. DH and kids complain when I turn up the heating and just don't get how I can be so cold. I did buy a pair of boots a couple of years ago (got them half price in TK Maxx) and they are the only footwear I own which keep my feet warm.

YANBU! I feel your pain too. My feet get cold and my fingers go numb at almost every opportunity. Even sheepskin slippers (which I wear all the year round - they look great with summer dresses!) and sheepskin mittens with silk liners don't help.

I think I should live in a warmer climate.

I have made some microwavable barley bags (apparently barley holds its heat better than wheat) with fleecey washable covers for my feet in bed and I have a HotRox electric handwarmer.

Afraid I don't have any other recommendations though.
