AIBU?

To not believe that there is not a woman alive who would like to be 18 again?

According to actress Amanda Redman 'There's not a woman alive who wouldn't like to be 18 again; don't let anyone fool you into thinking otherwise'

Anyone agree/disagree?

I wouldn't like to be 18 again. Now, 17 yes. I had a blast. Summer 1976, exciting times, but that is in the past with happy memories.

I wouldn't like to go back in time at all really.

I wouldn't mind being 18 again - by then I had finally pretty much got shot of the girl who had made the previous 5 years of my life fairly miserable (well she was still very much in my life but no longer the ringleader of anything) I had new friends in 6th form who I loved going out with and getting silly 18 year old drunk with, and I was about to go off to uni where I had a great time.

I was still a bit of a penis a lot of the time though, I didn't grow out of the until much later!

Can't imagine it as I wouldn't be who I am / where I am / have what I have if I'd done things differently. Wasn't very happy at that age and am at peace with myself now.

My life was pretty miserable at 18,
Harrassed at work, suffering badly with depression and still living with my emotionally abusive alcoholic mother.

I genuinely stop and grin when I think about how lovely my life is now, and how happy I am.
We don't have much but I appreciate every little bit.

Would I go back in time? Live with my parents, do A-levels, go through university and TRY to make friends with my friends (because they are lovely) without them knowing me so I'd probably make them think I was weird?

Or would I be magically made to be 18 NOW? Where would I live? How would I make a living? Nobody would hire me. I'd have no documentation.

I suspect this was written by someone who does not read much science fiction. "Being 18 again" is fraught with difficulties.

Most people would like their youth back, men and women.

I would like to revisit the first few months of being 18 - my dad died of a heart attack when I was 18 years and 4 months - I would love to be able to spend time with him again.

It was also a time when the world was my oyster (upper sixth) and life was stretching out ahead full of possibilities.

Now I am pushing towards 50 - life could be better, but also could be a lot worse.

I don't hanker to be 18 again - too much of a realist - live the life you have now.

I hate statements like that - if you disagree the person 'knows' you're kidding yourself. What about those of us who had bereavement or illness to contend with at that age? Stupid cow.

No way would I want to be 18 again! I was a knob!

Hell no. Why would anyone want to be 18 again, even if you had the knowledge you have gained as an adult.

If I had all the self knowledge I've gained I be happy going back to 28 though. God the changes I'd make.

Wouldn't have got married for a start well, at least, not to exh.

RedToothBrush you are very wise.

But I'm not.

So I would also like to go back to being 18, or about 3 months younger, and undo some mistakes and lose some regrets.

No doubt why I made the mistakes in the first place!

I was a complete idiot at 18! Had lots of 'fun', sure, but made some really stupid decision based on messed up priorities.

Now if someone gave me the chance to be 25 again, I'd jump at it. Between 24 and 25 I had some massive changes in knowledge, priorities, and judgement which meant that when I turned 25 I really began to soar and enjoy life.

You couldn't pay me enough money to agree to go back to 18 again.

30 perhaps but no way with 18.

Only if I know what I know now. At 18 I knew nothing, so, so naive it's an embarrassment. Think I finally got wise around 40, so it took a while.

Wouldn't mind being the size I was at 18, even though I thought I was fat back then. Part of my naivety - listening to people who 'knew best' & told me I was huge!! Am 2-3 sizes bigger now & no longer give a chuff what they say Grin

I was more than a bit of a mess at 18. Chubby & spotty to boot.
I didn't have some health issues I have now, so that would be nice.

It seems odd that Amanda R. is so comfortable letting folk see her arm scars but extols the pressure to look beautiful otherwise. Weird disconnect.

No way! It wasn't a great age for me. I'm far happier, more confident and have a much better life now in my late thirties.

I'd like to be 25 again, though. Just to un-fuck a few stupid decisions I made, and to experience a washboard pre-baby belly again for a bit Grin.

But on the whole, I'm very happy being an old hag mature Grin.

18 was possible the worst of my 44 years. Now 19.... Bring it on!

I love my life at the moment, but my twenties were so much fun. I loved uni, loved my sport and had such a care free time.

I would go back to being 19 and a half again - but I wouldn't change anything. Just to re-live the fun long summers doing a sport I loved with friends I loved and going on an exciting discovery of myself.

Wouldn't go back to 18 because although it was fun, it was nowhere near as good as 19 and a half.

Oh, I would do one thing differently. I wouldn't drink so much on my 21 birthday. I got too drunk and had to be looked after. Hasn't happene since and hadn't happened before.

i was never a good teenager, I hated parties and going out. I was always happiest at home with my
Boyfriend (now dh) and tbh life was harder then than it is now. I shudder at the thought of going back. (32 now).

The only reason I'd want to be 18 again would be so I'd never start smoking (seriously, what kind of dick takes it up at 18?). But other than that, no way in hell. Getting cat called in the street, going out with arseholes, no money, always worried about how I looked - no thanks!

18 was awful for me. To be fair it started on a bit of a downer being raped at my 18th party. 17 was in contrast my peak happiness year.

Looking back is so pointless, beats me why anyone would want to repeat their life, once is enough for me thanks.
