YANBU. I live opposite a big park so get a lot of dog walkers round here. There was a huge pile of dog shit right outside my front gate last week. Not the first time and won't be the last I'm sure.
Took the kids for a walk down the canal recently too and I've never seen it so bad, the path was practically lined with dog poo!

Disgusting and puts all dog owners in a bad light when the majority do pick up. I don't know why dogs are not encouraged to do it in the gutter instead of the middle of a path or field. At least it'll get washed away down the drain and no one walks there. I can't help think of residue!!!!! I was in hospital recently and the lady in the bed next to me was blind in one eye since birth. Her mum contracted toxo something whilst pregnant from dog poo at a park. Scary!

Dog shit is the most wretched smell!

I hate those joggers that go running with their dog trailing behind them. Their dog inevitably shits and their owner is 10 or so metres up the path. I swear they have absolutely no intention of picking any dog mess either as they don't carry any bags. Hate those people.

It definitely gets worse in the winter where I live because the gits can get away with it more. Although a dog that was a major culprit died recently so until the dirty bugger who owned it gets a new dog we are having a bit of a reprieve from shit.
They used to open the door of their house and send the dog on its own down the main road towards farmland to have a shit so they didn't have to deal with it.

YANBU. Our school run is just awful, trying to get two boys and a pram through all the dog poo littered across the pavements. It's like an obstacle course. Has anyone else noticed that it gets worse in the autumn/winter? Presumably because the dark nights mean that people think they can get away with it more?

I agree I hate poo trees and poo bushes.

I don't see much dog shit around when I'm home in England, but I've been in Paris for six months and my GOD it's everywhere! And what makes me even more angry is that the government actually provide free poop bags! There are these little kioskan stands with reams of little black poop bags specifically for dog shit and people still don't pick up after their dogs.

The only time I don't pick up after my dog is when she does her business in the middle of a thicket of nettles or similar, and I give the stink eye to anyone I see not picking up after theirs!

Leaving a stinking bag of dog shit hanging from a tree or bush for eternity is much worse than a pile on a path IMO, at least on the path it will eventually disappear. What was once a local beauty spot in my area is now a disgusting sight of poo trees. Don't know what possesses people.

Of course, dog mess should always be picked up and disposed of in the correct manner. If no bin is immediately available then you just have to carry it until there is!
FWIW the only time I didn't pick up my dog's poo was an unfortunate time he decided to squat in the middle of the road as we were crossing...car approaching in the distance...just enough time to drag him to the pavement before the car splatted through it. Was my husband! Grin All shit collected on tires so technically my job was done Grin

Where were all the posters of this thread i was growing up?! If we stepped in dog mess when we were little our parents got all angry at US, for not 'looking where we are stepping'

Not the lazy bastards who cba to pick up their dogs mess on a playing field!!

I grew up in a place with dog shit covered pavements. I still walk looking at the ground.
Yanbu. I slipped in a massive pile of shite when running after my toddler once. It was all over my canvas shoes. Foul.
A dog walker saw it happen and starting ranting about irresponsible dog owners. He was keen for me to know he always picked up his dogs shit. I think he was more bothered by it than I was!

YANBU.
Filthy bastard dog owners. I would gladly wipe their faces in it.

Leaving bags of poo is not on, but I have slightly less of a problem with someone doing half the job-removing the poo from harms way so no one steps in it/rolls through it-than those who just leave it exposed on the floor.

At least with the others there's some recognition that leaving it exposed is unnacceptable. I'd rather a bag swinging from a bush anyday than shit left on a path.

OhWotIsItThisTime · 26/07/2015 07:03

Why let the dog shit in the middle of the pavement? Move it to the side. Then if it's runny, at least it reduces the risk of people stepping in it.

Waverley I use a pooper scooper that cost a pound from Wilkinson's, it works well for, erm, less solid output, at least on grass.

OP, YANBU. I can cope with clearing up my own dog's mess, but clearing up after someone else's or cats makes me heave. I'd also like to be able to walk across grass to clear up after my dog, without looking where I'm putting my feet. Around here, it is a £1000 fine, too. Sad

This is just utter filth. I don't own a dog and where I live the disgusting bastards that own the dogs pick up the shit, put it in a bag then throw it in the bushes too so it's left dangling on some branch. It is so disgusting. Nothing makes me madder.
The worst is when I take my two DC out for a walk along the canal where we live and the buggy wheels get caked in it, my DC tread in it and when we get home it's a mission jet washing everything off so it's not covered in dirty dogs shit.
Yes of course if a dog has the shits then the owner should attempt to clean it. I admit it may be difficult to do that but fucking hell; it's your dog. I shouldn't have to tread in its shit when I'm out walking with my children.

It's a health hazard and unacceptable. :(

Ack. The last time I stepped in dog shit was a few years ago, I was suffering with depression and anxiety at the time and it was the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak. I can still clearly remember the tears as I tried to scrub shite off the soles of my trainers.

The kicker? It happen while I was walking my fucking dog. His shit all carefully bagged and swinging from my hand, on the way to the bin Angry

I used to live in a town where the playing fields were also the local park. I swear to god, the dog owners got some kind of kick out of letting their mutts shit right on the try line. Poor local rugby team...

Okay, Regina, I was just asking for an opinion. Sometimes these things happen with no prior warning. Not sure how I would prevent them from having the shits. That would be an ace superpower to have Grin. In my defence, I clean up as best I can, and if it happens on a pavement will go back and rinse off if it is at all practicable. Not sure what else you would expect. A cork up the bum?

How do you know what the consistency of your dog's shit is going to be like though until you're out on the walk ?

Report
ReginaBlitz · 25/07/2015 22:09

Waverley- your dog your problem tough if it's "not always possible" either prevent your dog from having the shits or go back and jet wash the fucker up. Disgusting! I was mortified once when my dog shat and I'd left bags at home (late for school and nursery) so after I'd dropped everyone i detoured to the local shop and bought something random just for the bag and went back and picked it up, my dog MY responsibility if my dog ever had the shits I wouldn't take her on a walk simple.

I think it's usually the same dog, I have a dog and I have noticed he likes to poo in the same place which of course I pick up. You often see similar poos in the same place because its the one owner not picking up.

I have a question. I have 2 dogs, and pick up after them as best I can wherever they go. If, however, they had a dodgy tum, and made a hard to clean up mess, would you expect me to go above and beyond to clean up or accept that I'd done the best job possible? Disclaimer: DH and I may have gone back after walk to wash the offending area as much as possible with water. Not always possible, though.

Took my little boy out to the playing fields and lake today for a big of duck feeding action. Clearly loads of ignorant dog owners had been out before me, including one person who left a pile of fresh dog crap 2 foot from one of those dog waste bins. I bloody hate it.

A few weeks ago some ignorant b@stard let their dog crap on my driveway. I'm assuming it was a dog, going by the size of its deposit, it could have been a small elephant.

We live next to a beautiful park which is virtually unusable thanks to dog shit. The dog owners pretend not to know what their dogs are doing in the bushes but they know darn well. I cleared up 4 shits within a yard of my back gate last week.
We also do a 2 mile school run on foot and the amount of dog poo we have to dodge is horrendous. One particularly bad one is the incontinent dog that always shits randomly all across the pavement, same place (near the school). Not in one big pile though, it's randomly strewn across the path so you might miss one bit but another will get you as you step aside. I get apoplectic with rage about dog shit and although many dog owners are responsible it has tainted my view of dogs and their owners.
