Postman forging my signature on signed for mail

More of a WWYD? than AIBU.

Basically, getting parcels from ebay, sellers sending them signed for. Postman leaving them in my garden waste bin and scribbling on his signing machine thing and putting my name in the box as who's signed for it.

Bin men came yesterday, removed parcels from bin, and left them on top of the bin, probably to avoid breaking the contents as would have happened if they had dropped them back into an empty bin.

What should I do?

Sorry, I had totally forgotten about this thread!

I do live in quite a rural place, but work opposite the sorting office.

I will leave a note for him :)

if you do complain then get in touch with royal mail or your nearest sorting office as Royal mail and post office are two different companies

Ours used to do this. He did ask if we wanted it when we first moved in. Rather nice, he knocked on the door to introduce himself and ask what we wanted to do with parcels, where to leave them etc.
I was very grateful, and was very sad when he retired.

Just speak to the postman and tell him you'd rather he didn't do it , he is just trying to be helpful - our regular postie does this ( not putting things in the bin though) and I find it a great help .

Are you sure he's deliberately trying to make it look like you've signed for it?

My postman does this but signs his own signature and writes "Postman" on it. I'm very sure he's not supposed to do this but I am eternally grateful as it saves me a long old walk down to the sorting office. And I can't take a morning off work every time I'm expecting a parcel so I'm really glad he's kind enough to sign for me. Little acts of kindness are so rare these days.

I'm sure he does think he's being helpful so please don't complain and get him fired. Just have a word and say thanks but you prefer to sign for your own parcels or have them returned if you're not in to sign for them.

I love in a rural area and it's a god send when our postie saves us a trip to nearest town, out postie was of last week and had to keep traipsing into town in road works was a pita

Oh, do have a word with him first before you complain. There are a few things you can do as a postie that get you instantly fired and I think this may be one of them.

Our postie will do this for us and puts the parcels out of sight. If you don't want it just have a word with him/her. They probably think they are being helpful.

As others have said, they may think they are doing you a favour. Ours signs as he knows we are not in, but hides them around the back. I'm very grateful as it is difficult to get to the sorting office

Complain to Royal Mail. I did as our postman was signing for stuff and then leaving it the front doorstep in view of everyone passing. One item was a camera which ended up outside the house for several hours but thankfully wasn't stolen!

Just ask the postman or postwoman not to do it. They're only allowed to sign for items where the house owner has left a letter at the local post office stating that they give permission for the postie to do this.

It's probably as Fatstacks says, they're trying to save you a trip (are you in a rural area?). Although usually the postie will check if you want them to do this as they aren't supposed to do it...

If you don't want them to do it any more, just tell them, or ask them not to leave parcels in a bin again. Or alternatively, just report them to the post office and they will get into trouble, but at least you know they won't try and do you a favour again!

I live in a rural area and really appreciate the postman who I know very well signing for this for me rather than bothering my grandmother who lives next door. He does, however, leave them in her porch. I'd be furious if anyone left a parcel in a bin.

He may think he is saving you a trip.

Mine signs for our parcels and pops them inside the cat flap or in the wood shed.

Could yours be trying to help? Do you know your postie? Could a quick note to him be as good?

Mine are usually left on the doorstep...
I typed in the number of one, it showed the 'signature' as a circle.
I filled in forms from the post office, but nothing changed.
I have just ordered more things from ebay, but opted for the pick up at Argos instead.
Pain having to drive 45 mins into town, with toddler, but at least I know where my goodies are.
There is a form and an email for complaints. They didn't do anything about mine though.

Can you prove you were out at the time?

Call the post office stat.
