AIBU?

To hate just about all forms of exercise

On my way to the gym.

Dreading it. Hate getting sweaty. Hate puffing and panting. Hate the aches and pains.

Apparently this is wrong and I should love it and it will lift my mood and make me happy and glowy.

Aibu. I just this is wrong and HATE it!

Im another exercise hater, I just dont get that endorphin buzz at all. I also dont get any buzz from caffiene, I think im just generally un-buzzy :D

Im currently at the start of getting back to the only exercise ive ever stuck to - walking into work and back. I just cant get into doing exercise for no reason but doing it as part of travelling to something else is fine :D

I always feel terrific after a swim. But I really have to push myself to go. All that faffing around changing and showering and drying hair etc and trying to get to the pool at times that will be fairly quiet put me off. However, I force myself to go twice a week and I'm always delighted coming back out that I did it.
Otherwise, I drag myself out for a few walks a week. But organised exercise or team sports are a definite no no for me.

I loathe running outside but love, love running on the treadmill at the gym.

Detest cycling but am addicted to spinning.

I love getting sweaty. My spinning badge of honour is to have sweat dripping off my nose.

Oh, I do it. I go to the gym every other day and go round the equipment. Much like going to work, it's something I force myself to do because of the benefits: monetary in the former and aesthetic in the latter - and the long term benefits for both.

However, if I was given twelve months to live, my butt would go nowhere near work or the gym! Grin

If I eat onions I do burps. So I'm half way to burpees.

Lovelydiscusfish, well, if reading is exercise, I'm sorted! Grin
Thank you so much for your 'invention', from the bottom of my heart [thank]Wink

Burpees look like hard work...

Getting drunk: fun at the time. Feel rotten after.
Exercising: feel rotten at the time, feel awesome after.

It doesn't get easier, you just achieve more for the same level of exhaustion.

I like it as an excuse to get outside and some quiet time alone. I was always hopeless at running, but I've been converted. Circuits grew on me as you don't get much time to get bored and swap sore muscle groups around. I like the results too. I have a soft spot for kit and gadgets too.

I ache anyway, so I may as well be fit and ache!

I have been to yoga. The version I do is quite intense and stamina heavy. All stretched out now. I like the lying down bit at the end best. I'm good at that. Grin

And, Badgers, I do put the seat all the way down but my poor little legs just dangle in mid air on the spin bikes, reaching out for the pedals but never quite making it.

OP you say that the things you'd like to try are too expensive to do regularly. Is there some sort of meetup website with groups in your area? It might be a cheap or even free way to meet up with others doing various sports. Just a suggestion.

I do hate exercise and am unusually lazy. But, I think I recently made a breakthrough - if you can persist for around 2 weeks it gets easier. Once you've got your shoes on and are out the door you'll be fine. That's the hardest part!

Because I don't like anything :) Anything I would like would be far too costly to do regularly. I exercise because of the health benefits but I don't enjoy it.

I don't understand - why would you do something you hate? Find something you like instead. I've been active all my life, mostly martial arts, mountain biking and now weightlifting and calisthenics. I don't like running. Boring. Hate the breathing and racing heart. I don't do burpees - what are they for? So, sure, I try new stuff but then I move on until I find something I like.

Keep attending dull 'megafit yayfit superfit youbefit' classes and sure, they're as boring as they sound. Think of something you'd enjoy!

Walking is great. And I read, or perhaps invented the fact, that it is the best form of exercise you can do.

Report
UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 17/05/2015 20:28

bidgchef it's a good suggestion, but I'm not motivated enough to do it Sad

Classes work for me because I know that I've got to be at the gym for 8pm for my circuit trainings so make myself go. If I think that I will do some exercise at home I keep putting it off, and then it's too late.

Still hate it though.

Gymrat then? Somehow gymrat sounds accurate to me than gymbunny. Not sure why.

Gymbunny isn't sexist is it? I think men can be gym bunnies too Confused

I run at lunchtime and have a PT twice a week. Both of these I dread and wouldn't do if I didn't have someone making me.

I also play tennis though and I am totally obsessed. I would play every day if it wasn't for DH and the kids and it not being fair on them. It doesn't seem like exercise even though I do come home beet root.

I'm a gym hater. Tried running but was too embarrassed. I've been doing Davina DVDs for 3 months now and results are amazing, also nobody can see me tomato red in the face and panting!

I actually have defined abs now, still have some weight to get rid of, but it's a great start.

Report
Jackieharris · 17/05/2015 19:16

I actually do get the endorphins feeling after exercise. But I have a joint condition which means I hardly ever go.

I have exercised all my life and I still get a feeling of dread before a class or training session. It's nothing to do with fitness, it's just having to psych myself up to do something that's going to be physically strenuous. Training for a marathon was the worst, every Saturday was the "long run" where we ran further each week to get up to full distance. I never slept well on Friday evenings. I was happy I did it but only afterwards and only once - never again!

I currently do crossfit and I get the "dread" before every single class. The only thing I do that I love and really look forward to doing, is badminton. I started as an adult beginner, and I'll probably remain a beginner but it's so much fun and the people I play with are all similarly bad at it we have a great time. I think you have to find something you can really enjoy with people at the same level as you who don't take it too seriously.

YANBU. Most forms of exercise make me cry with despair. The only exercise I love is walking. But now that I have a toddler, even that has become a chore. Honestly, there are snails going faster than us. At least snails don't stop to examine every pebble on the ground.
