If you have a sweet tooth, did you make real changes? I am eating plenty of good stuffs-3 decent meals plus healthy snacks but on top if this I could put away 2 bars of chocolate, easy.. I don't have any weight issues myself but wonder is this bu and should I make a better effort? I am 13 weeks now and coming out of the nausea but am still exhausted and that definitely sets off the craving, it's not hunger I know. .

I craved really healthy stuff with my first (boy) but this time round I want everything fatty and sugary. Seriously it's out of control. (And she's a girl.)

The only thing I'm worried about fins that when she's eating solids she'll only want sweets, but health wise I don't think there are any negative effects.

I have a sweet tooth and totally indulged myself during both pregnancies.

DD2 is now nine months, and I can honestly say that with both girls the sweet craving left me once I'd delivered.

I just don't fancy chocolate half as much. Goodness knows why, I think it must be hormonal, as I love my food, and would be sticking in to the chocs, should the mood take me. The mood just...doesn't take me any more!

During my second pregnancy I craved more and more sugar. I got bigger and bigger. At the end of the day it was caused by a rare genetic problem with my son. I wish one of my midwives had made more of a fuss about the weight gain - I nearly lost him.

I became obsessed with Haribo Tangfastics, both pregnancies, during the nausea phase (18 weeks for me). Didn't really affect my weight my probably didn't do my teeth any favors.

Later in both pregnancies I craved salty stuff and like bacon sarnies and Batchelors chicken noodle cuppa soup. I wasn't interested in chocolate and cakes until I started breastfeeding.

With my daughter I lived on swizzles sweets, refreshers, ice cream and White bread. However, when I had my boy I couldn't stand sweet things and I even took to drinking the vinegar from the pickled beetroot jar if no-one was watching. It was the boy pregnancy when I developed gestational diabetes- with the girl I just got fat.

I lived on chocolate mini eggs and full size Easter eggs. Didn't gain much weight but baby was over 10lbs so possibly didn't help that!

I ate whatever I wanted/craved and could keep down without being sick in pregnancy. i started out with lovely m&s meals and fresh veg saying 'i need to be healthy' but by 5 months and still morning sickness every day I just ate what I fancied which was usually McDonalds :( i am ashamed now but at the time everything else made me chuck up

I crave simple carbs in pregnancy. I suppose it's a response to how physically draining I find it. After the sickness stopped with Ds1, I'd lost half a stone, then between a big (long lean) baby, a lot of fluid, a sweet tooth, and being housebound with SPD, I gained 50% of my bodyweight in 6 months. Also low blood pressure and being prone to fainting if I was hungry didn't help.

I find it easier to eat sensibly after baby has arrived, and have lost the two rounds of baby weight and am lighter than pre children.

I was eating Betty Crocker (sp?) chocolate icing from the pot Blush . No effect on baby, or me (family history of diabetes and GD). The sweet tooth passed. I gained about 9 kg which I lost straightaway after delivery and it's slowly creeping back on despite my virtuous diet

Thanks and for the words of warning. I understood GD was a hormone thing more than diet ie how your body's pregnancy hormones react to insulin-my friend is a v sensible eater and got it..

Before I got pregnant I ate very little sugary stuff and hardly any meat. I had 9 months of being permanently starving with cravings for pick n mix by the bucket load, red meat and even more than usual excessive amounts of cheese. (Not all at once!) Very thankful I have a very active job and was working right up until DD was born otherwise I'd have put on even more. Still got the sugar cravings, but keep telling myself it's the bf causing it Grin I'm pinning my hopes on losing the remaining baby weight once I get back off mat leave... It's never going to happen whilst I'm at home stuffing myself full of chocolate hobnobs

insulin is the horMone that regulates sugar in your body - hence the link.

I'm worried about this at the moment, I don't usually eat junk but I'm eating loads of biscuits, chocolate bars, sweets. The thing is it's not causing weight gain- it's filling me up so I can't eat normal food, it's instead of nutritious food :(

I haven't had the best diet during pregnancy. I'm 29 weeks and getting worried I'm not giving the baby a good diet but my brain has an overwhelming feeling if not giving a crap. It's weird

I had gallstones so had to be on a very low fat diet. Sweets were about the only treat food I was allowed. So I ate loads.

Not too much sugar (or sweet tooth) during pregnancy: I was terrified about putting "excessive" weight on (I did put on about 24lbs - which seemed reasonable. DS was 7lbs 1oz at birth at 39 weeks and I lost all baby weight, all 24lbs within, 2 weeks of the birth - despite eating lots after birth).

My sweet tooth happened after the birth (chocolates and cake), but I was breastfeeding and continued to loose weight (another stone after 11 months of breastfeeding). I was 9st 12 pre-pregnancy. Went up to about. 11st 8 during pregnancy. Back to 9st 12 two weeks after birth. Down to 8st 12 after 11 months of breastfeeding. DS is now 5 and I hover around 9st 5.

If "regaining your figure" after birth is a concern, then eat mostly healthily during pregnancy. I have had some friends really struggle to get back to pre-pregnancy weight (ie years...).

I didn't crave sugar when pregnant - I do now though for the energy kick!

When pregnant I craved tuna sandwiches & fruit. And ice cubes.

GD is a concern for everyone, but you don't cause it through your diet. That's not an excuse to go mad, but don't feel guilty if you get GD.

I have a sweet tooth while pg and bf. Haven't gained huge amounts of weight in the past. Just try to be sensible.

I don't think I overly craved sweet stuff in my first two pregnancies, but was a bit clueless and used to drink full fat coke and have what I wanted really, because i'm an eejit. Third pregnancy I had gestational diabetes which I was on insulin for, obviously opened my eyes about glycaemic index etc, I lost so much weight during that pregnancy, the consultant ordered me to eat malt loaf with butter before bed, which I did Grin, because my ketones were always ++++. Smallest bump of the lot, and an 8lb 9oz baby despite warnings of a whopper.

Er a lot. At least a lot for me. Mainly ice cream. I'm a bit worried I'll get GD but I don't meet any of the risk factors so they don't test. But is it the case, as a PP said, it is down to how well your body deals with sugar?

I constantly craved chocolate cake and milk when I was pregnant, especially those frozen mousse Sara Lee type ones. I tried to keep it under control but then started defrosting one before bed so it was perfect by 3am
