I'm sure Asda plates are fine. Just don't cook a pie on one and give it to your friend...in case she brings it on a night out. And beware the rogue plate you've never seen before which appears in the cupboard.

You are doing it wrong. Proper steak cooking instructions are as follows:

Retrieve packet from fridge
Hand to dh
Sit down with cuppa whilst he cooks it

I cooked brown lentils for 20 minutes without soaking them, instead of soaking them then cooking for 90 minutes, as the packet instructions said. clearly they were written by somebody who has never cooked lentils before.

Hahaha - 'stick it to the man' indeed. I am with you on this one. Joking aside I take a disproportionate amount of pleasure in disobeying unimportant instructions (because am far too polite/diligent to ignore important ones) but I can't stand being told what to either

I don't put it on a plate, I just cut the plastic and let it hang out on its tray for about an hour- yes a full hour
