I get a steak in a shrink-wrapped tray from the local convenience store. Instructions say to remove from packaging and place on a large plate for 10 minutes before cooking.

A LARGE plate? Pfft! I'm such a rebel, I put it on a SMALL plate for 10 minutes.

Take that you authoritarian food nazis!

I don't rinse pearl barley, I just chuck it into the casserole dish and hope for the best.

Oh, despicable me.

I obeyed instructions once. I cooked rice, it said boil for twenty minutes then stand in pan.
I got third degree burns on my feet.

Never again!

Well, my daughter crocheted a hat that resembled an extra large condom as a result of not following instructions, so let that be a warning to you!

I'm sure Asda plates are fine. Just don't cook a pie on one and give it to your friend...in case she brings it on a night out. And beware the rogue plate you've never seen before which appears in the cupboard.

All who mention ASDA plates - are they good then?

I need some new crockery...

You are doing it wrong. Proper steak cooking instructions are as follows:

Retrieve packet from fridge
Hand to dh
Sit down with cuppa whilst he cooks it

I wish I knew how to attach photos. The sticker on my asda chicken instructed. . . .
'Do Not wash and cook thoroughly'
I disobeyed these instructions for fear of food poisoning!

My puff pastry was meant to be out of the fridge 20 minutes before rolling.

I only waited 19

I've had shampoo that said rinse and repeat. I didn't repeat. Up the revolution!

I cooked brown lentils for 20 minutes without soaking them, instead of soaking them then cooking for 90 minutes, as the packet instructions said. clearly they were written by somebody who has never cooked lentils before.

I get my kicks where I can these days.

I cooked my pie for 29 minutes. The instructions said 30-35.

And I ignored the 'serving suggestion' on the box of chocolates I had. I didn't put them on a plate - I tipped them all into my mouth :)

When the travelator voice demands I stand still & hold the handrail I shimmy and do jazz hands till I get off.

If I fall it's my own look out. If I wanna dance on the travelator, then by deuce I shall!!

So put it on a plate for 10 mins before cooking. Then cook, then put on another plate (as last one contaminated with raw meat) to rest and then serve on a 3rd lovely white ASDA plate.

Too much washing up for one bloody (i like mine rare) steak!

Hahaha - 'stick it to the man' indeed. I am with you on this one. Joking aside I take a disproportionate amount of pleasure in disobeying unimportant instructions (because am far too polite/diligent to ignore important ones) but I can't stand being told what to either Grin

Doing this is what stops me be an actual arguementative difficult arsehole - here's to petty rulebreaking !! hope your steak tastes even better for your truimph

I don't put it on a plate, I just cut the plastic and let it hang out on its tray for about an hour- yes a full hour
