AIBU?

To ask you all how long your...uh...coccyx hurt for after a fall?

So last Sunday I went ice skating, and fell on my arse. Hard. I couldn't sit down for the rest of the day, but by the next day, it had eased a lot. I could feel it there but it wasn't unbearable pain.
Then by Tuesday the pain had pretty much gone. Brilliant.

Except that this Sunday, it came back with a vengeance. Then yesterday it was hurting so much, I could barely lift the toddler up. Had a hot bath last night, but nope, didn't help. Actually hurt more with the ceramic on my arse! Today is the same.

Is this normal? My boss thinks I should go to the doctor - WIBU to ignore her to avoid a bum examination?

I cracked mine years ago falling on it, took about 6 months to comfortably be able to sit or stand. Horrible pain that stayed with me to the extent I will not go Ice skating etc for fear of falling and to see me walk outdoors in winter is laughable.
When I did it we were on holiday, a 5 hour drive in a very small Corsa to get home. There were tears most of the way the pain was phenomenal but with 2 small kids in the back there was no other option.

Horse-riding accident - it was two years before I could put my socks on without it hurting, and about ten years before I stopped getting the occasional twinge.

27 years! Sorry, not what you want to hear. I went flying on a shiny floor when pregnant with my eldest, now 27, feet up in the air and landed on my coccyx. It was bruised and made me waddle for the rest of the time I was carrying him. It has since flared up a couple of times a year, then just when I thought I had seen the last of it.... no flare up for 7 years... it has been back with a vengeance, missed 2 days of work, just miserable agony.

As said it is one of those things you can't do much to fix, just learn ways to deal with it. Keep active, hot baths help, lots of painkillers to help you keep active, and this time I have tried those heat packs you stick on too. They just feel weird!!

Mine was about 15 years ago and I do suffer back problems, but I have a worsening scoliosis so I kind of put the odd twinge down to that. You lot now have me wondering.

All this posts are making me wince! I'm pretty sure I would get laughed out of the GP surgery after only being in pain for a week, compared to you lot!
I had a bath last night on my knees, bum resting on my heels. Quickly regretted trying to lie on my back in there!

Do get it X-rayed. If I had left mine, it never would have got better. Maybe they can't do anything, but if they can, it's better to do it before it sets!

Mine was fixable with a chiropractor, which I had to research myself as my GP didn't think to recommend since it isn't offered on the NHS. It was £££ but well worth every penny!!!

I hurt mine when I was 14 and it hurt like hell for 6 years. Still plays up sometimes now.

I hurt mine in a completely self-inflicted accident (very drunk, went to sit down, missed chair Blush). It was really sore for a week or so after (don't remember it being awful that night, but then I was majorly drunk Blush) and hurt on and off for a couple of months if I wasn't careful about how I sat.

2 years after a fall I'm still in pain. Especially if I sneeze or cough while sat down Sad

I urt mine as a 13/14y. I remember the pain even now. Doctor reckon I had broken it, or at least chipped it. But nothing they can do about it. I remember not being able to sit/lay comfortably for a week or two at least and it aching for longer.
Even now - some 25+ years later there are times it twinges!

10 years for me, I'm afraid. Until I had ds. Then not a twinge since.

I slipped and came down with a crash on my tiled kitchen floor.

It was at least 6 weeks before I could sit down normally and almost 3 months before it stopped hurting completely.

Sorry!

When I fell down the stairs and landed on mine, it was a good 6 months before I could sit on both buttocks at the same time.

About 4-6 weeks for me, after hurting it while snowboarding. The worst thing was sneezing, I am quite a violent sneezer, and seem to sneeze a lot - then each sneeze was absolute agony! Sent my coccyx intx into spasms and there was nothing to do about it...

I had a nasty fall on mine as a child, and it still plays up occasionally, 25 years later! :-/

I broke my coccyx 7 years ago and still get pain if I sit too long on a hard chair or slouch too much.
When I first did it, it took 3 weeks and strong painkillers before I could sit down .

I fell on my coccyx after slipping trying to kick a ball. I couldn't sit down on anything remotely firm for more than 5 mins without being in considerable discomfort. That continued for about 6 months (the transatlantic flight I had to take 3 days after doing it was agonising). I continued to get quite a bit of pain for another six months. It's been about 8 years now and I still odd twinges if I sit on hard seats or for too long.
