Not to get how rainbow loom works?

My DS1 only uses his fingers and never bothered with loom itself. Ok, so i've given in to the craze, bought the loom for myself. And i completely don't get it. I read the instructions and total crap turns out. at least DS1 finds it funny watching me fiddle and make a mess.
Are these things supposed to be understood only by children???

I've got two nails on the top of a square bit of wood to simulate the two finger method, and I also made a full loom with nails in the relevant places.
My son took it to school and "lost it" (gave it to one of the girls).
I can only master fishtail at the moment.

I've grasped the python finally. Now my ambition is to make a dog collar of this pattern

I bought a loom & bands on a groupon deal for about £8. I made this after watching some YouTube tutorials.
I'm stuck in hospital at the moment & DH has DSD this weekend. She found the loom & bands I bought for her & tried it out but gave up after 5 minutes. Then she saw my bracelet thingy & had apparently been asking DH all day when I'm coming home so I can show her how to make one :) it's nice to be wanted.

Bought the proper loom for DD today from Claires Outlet at Cheshire Oaks. With discount it was £14 something. Worth every penny though as it's a breath of fresh air in comparison to the cheap looms. Five minutes with it and she's mastered the starburst Grin

I'm ashamed to admit I love it too.

I've made several tonight and can now make fishtails, inverted fishtails, double ladders, starbursts Wink yes I'm so proud and have no life - haha.

YouTube definitely helps and if not there are step by step photos and instructions on some.

Bought 2 types of cheap ones. Both broke. Angry

Have given in and bought the official Rainbow Loom. It's much better quality and would have saved me money had I just bought it in the first place. I got mine on Amazon but you can buy them in Claires shop too.

I would also recommend buying the Rainbow loom bands if you start making things beyond fishtails and other bracelets. My DDs have tried making various charms / animals but it puts a lot of strain on the bands and I've found the cheap bands just snap.

Ebay have the better looms for around £6.99, I'm going to invest in one as dd has broken all the others.

I have made the rainbow charm ( took me ages ), I struggle with the ones where you have to double the bands over on your fingers as the irritate my skin, struggled with the starburst too, do try the 'minion' bracelet on you tube ( it's a easy one ) and the hex fish tail.

I might have been eyeing up loom kits on eBay today. For myself. I don't even have any kids Blush

I am currently proudly sporting the two fishtails I made myself under instruction from DNiece

YouTube is the answer

I can now do starbursts - yeah, but I have arthritis in my fingers and they hurt like anything the day after. It's all so fiddly!

My mine craft style skeleton was going so well but I got interrupted half way through and must have missed a step on return and it wasn't joined in one bit when I took it off :(

12y Dd tends to do the fishtail and inverse fishtails, but does them in her fingers rather than the loom.

I've just had a failed attempt at a starburst (it was very close but somehow didn't join the ones that connect each star to the next so it ended up with gaps). Was going to have another go tonight but DS has broken the loom (ours was about £3 as well). I've only seen the small crappy ones in shops so far, anyone know whereI might get a bigger/better one apart from Amazon?

I'm finding it very hard working from videos, I need step by step photo instructions (I'm the same with everything). A book would be much better for me.

You can make quite a few designs using pencils or a couple of forks. Youtube will show you how.

Ooh I did one today I am so proud of. I don't even want to give the finished product to DD Blush

I can make fishtails on my cheap (The Works) loom but I think it's too small for anything else. Followed a starburst tutorial on You Tube and ended up throwing the thing across the room in frustration when I realised I was unable to follow the instructions of a 10 year old! I ran out of pegs though. DS2 had given up waiting and left the room long before.

The cheap ones seem to get bad reviews. I reckon it's worth paying out a bit more for the real thing. I find it quite therapeutic!

Yeah, didn't feel like paying £20 for real one, now i have a cheap AND broken one :(

They baffle me too...someone bought them for my 2.9 month old?!?! Hmm I tried for about 5 minutes then chucked them in a drawer

The loom (bought cheaply) we have does not look like the ones on you tube....I am struggling....although thankfully DD is still happy to make simple things on her fingers...

Yes, definitely YouTube.

Loads of tutorials on there.

I can make the basic fishtail bracelets on my fingers, but the loom bit baffles me, DD is the expert.

I spend more time on the loom than the kids, I love it Grin The inverted hexafish is where it's at.
