AIBU?

...to leave a talk forum because one user irritates the living arse off me?

NameChangeNameGame · 12/01/2014 09:23

it's not MN i'm talking about but have NC because I know person in question posts here too.

We both use a much smaller specialist talk forum as well as this one. Far less users so threads don't move on as quickly and one user can exert far more influence over the tone of a place.

99 per cent of posters are helpful, measured, sensible. This woman absolutely exasperates me on the other hand. Self-righteous, sanctimonious, passive-aggressive, sarky, slags off her partner and MIL endlessly, moans on and on and on and on about her relationship while ignoring any chance to change it, bitches against her DP's depression because it effects her even though she knew he was depressive when she chose to get pregnant by him, superior, condescending, aggressive in tone, smacks down on anyone else complaining about anything in their life because that's being a 'moaning minnie'. So let's add hypocrit to the list. Slags posters off offline. I feel she's an insecure bully and an overgrown high schoool bitch.

If i tell her this in the online small community all hell will break loose and I'll probably leave the forum anyway, so WIBU to just leave in advance because i cant stand the poisonous witch anymore?

i don't care if you think i'm being U or not, it just feels good to vent Grin

I go on a particular board on another forum, one weirdo troll is trying to ruin it. The majority of posters (very small forum) either have them on ignore or just completely ignore them - it's almost the decided policy. One or two naive posters think they can joust with them or rationalise with them (you can't) and this keeps the troll coming back Instead of starving them of the attention they crave. Because they are being ignored like a tantruming child, their rants and postings are going nuclear and more outrageous in their attempt to get folk to respond and bite. Ignore, ignore, ignore but you need folk on board for that.

It's strange how even someone on an Internet forum can irritate. I haven't been here too long but there are a couple of posters on MN who I recognise and who annoy me. One in particular just posts negative comments on every thread I've seen them on. Just makes me wonder why they bother. It's a bit easier to handle on here though as there are so many other posters.

Not sure what advice to offer but if you enjoy the other forum it would be a shame to leave. Maybe just have a break from it for a while?

Ignore Poster option sounds good. Though sometimes it doesn't work if you're seeing answers to the posts the Ignored person makes.

If that doesn't work ... does visiting the forum make you feel better or worse overall? If better, stay. If worse .. time to move on.

Ask the forum to put in an 'ignore poster' function? Send pms to anyone else you think is also annoyed with them so you can laugh instead of getting annoyed.

Set up a petition to have them BANNED!

YANBU. I left a forum a few years ago because two awful members had begun to dominate it. (They weren't members when I joined.) It was a shame as there were lots of lovely members on there, but I kept in touch with them on FB. At least on FB you can choose who you have as a friend!

There is somebody on here who makes me feel the same OP.
You just have to ignore.
In fact something awful kicked off once that was nothing to do with this person and after several pms I realised nobody else liked this person either. This person was implicated in the thing that kicked off but was completely innocent.
Now I don't engage with this person anymore, although it can be difficult when you are attracted to the same threads.
If there are others posting answer their responses and if the person directly addresses you, ignore. Go for a cuppa and the thread will have moved on when you come back.
I know its easier said than done, but makes you the bigger and better person in the end.

It's pretty normal in a smallish forum for there to be two or three posters who spoil things for everyone else. Leave and think no more about it.

I think you're lucky that 99% of the others are sensible. Small forums can breed complete bitchy lunacy and paranoia imho.

I want to know who it is, far to nosey for my own good.

Can you not block her?

Not nice to specifically have a go at an identified poster on another forum BOF, but I've PM'd you for the sake of your curiosity.

I'm intrigued who the annoying bloke is- any clues to the forum?

SiliconeSally · 12/01/2014 15:55

Make constructive challenges. If she is as horrible as you say I bet other posters feel the same way.

Start being assertive and clear but not rude or hostile. I bet you will get lots if support.

Seems like she's very angry about something and it's coming out elsewhere.

Haha- jingling would anyone ever identify themselves as 'sanctimonious, self-righteous, and PA'? Grin

LadyIsabella I suspect I know who you mean. If so he resulted in my posting much less this year and I don't think I was alone in that.

It's so annoying when one person ruins it for everyone else. Online is no difference to RL. I don't know what the answer is. I hope she recognises herself.

LadyIsabellasHollyWreath · 12/01/2014 09:36

Surely nobody could recognise themselves from that description? If you knew you were like that you wouldn't be like that IYSWIM.

Another forum I'm on is monopolised by a poster who either has unusual MH issues or is the most persistent troll ever. Always nice and pleasant, nothing you could get banned for, but obsessive and completely incapable of communicating on the same wavelength as everyone else . I feel sorry for him but he's single-handedly ruining the forum and there's really nothing anyone can do. So I do sympathise OP.

You've given a description of the poster in your OP and if they post here they might recognise them self so on that basis YABU.

Just ignore. not worth leaving the forum if you otherwise benefit.
There are posters on MN that put me in danger of losing an eye as I roll them so hard whenever they join a thread and im sure I have the same effect on someone else.

as someone said upthread - you are never going to like 100% of everyone and everything. don't let one moron ruin something for you!

Vent away!

I've have blocked a few users on another forum I'm on because they are total fuckwits!

I SHOULD take my own advice and understand that letting them get to me is because I'm placing far too higher importance on what they have to say and they don't deserve to be taken seriously, just laughed at. I can't do this though as I can't help but notice some people do take heed and then fall badly after taking their advice.

I SHOULD live by my own musings that the world is a much better place for lots of differing views and types of oeople, but have come to the conclusion that this only works for me when all the differing views agrees with my own Grin
