At 3pm on the school run the LAST thing I want to hear is vulgar lyrics about cumming and sex.

Tbh I just find it more sad than anything that so many songwriters lack the imagination to write about anything else.

I rather like songs to be about sex and/or love. And I don't mind explicit lyrics as long as it's not hand in hand with violence.

I don't find it vulgar at all, and I tend to be quite prudish in many ways.

"That I may loose the chains of her virginity" being one example of the lyrics and their reference to sex. It's nothing new for music to be about sex, in fact it would appear to be quite old.

I distinctly remember a song 'I'm horny' knocking around in the 90's which I realised was inappropriate as a young teen but my younger DSis sang it at full volume.

I love Bruno Mars and even though that song is a bit urgh I still think he's lovely. But I also have Azealas 212 album on my playlist ( which cannot get played when the kids are in the car).

And there have always been absolutely loads of explicitly sexual songs out there - from songs about having sex in the showers of the YMCA to Donna Summers simulating orgasm, to Marvin Gaye's own special brand of 'healing', to Chuck Berry's ding-a-ling, to the frankly bizarre Eurythmics 'sex crime' etc etc. Pop and rock music is supposed to be raunchy and dangerous; it's supposed to be the kind of music that parents turn off the radio when it comes on.

I'm 43. And I stand by what I said, it's easy to point out songs here and there in the 70s 80s 90s that were sexual and I think it's easy to point them out as they were few and far between - note the same songs get referenced everytime a thread like this comes up. My point was its becoming harder to turn down the odd line here or there because a lot of songs now have quite strong sexual references but more worrying is the aggressive sexual content rather than innuendo.

I haven't got a problem listening to songs myself but I have two DSs and I don't think it's great for them to hear this stuff. I'm not Mary Whitehouse btw.

Squeaky but there is a world of difference between innuendo and in your face sex lyrics. And back in the days of our youth it wasn't every other song on the radio was it

Songs don't tend to bother me, mostly because the genre I listen to can be a bit graphic. I do rather love Mindless Self Indulgence but with song titles like '2 hookers and an 8 ball' you sort of know what you are getting. That said, I don't expect anything by MSI to chart or get local radio play any time soon.

I think when mine were small I'd always choose a little more wisely what was on in the car, and I'd hum over the offending lines rather than sing them. I recall DD first starting to listen to Panic At The Disco though and the line 'the Grooms bride is a whore', only she totally misheard it and sang horse. To this day the grooms bride is a horse in this house.

I guess I was a bit easier going because I recall the sheer horror of my Mother marching me back to HMV with a vinyl copy of Guns N Roses 'Lies' my Aunt had bought me for my 14th birthday. Cracking album, language was a bit 'interesting'. I was mortified so I swore I'd never be quite as harsh on my own children. Of course as soon as my pocket money came I re-bought the album, I just bought it along with a double gatefold album and put it inside
