It's bound to be out by then. Never keen on her, but also sorry for her sons having her life raked over again.

I found her incredibly annoying in life and the hype around her death a farce. Having said that, it was tragic that 2 boys lost their much loved mother in such a way, it was worse that they had to face the media circus and even worse that we still can't let it go and rehash the whole thing every couple of years again. The wounds cannot heal, when they keep seeing pictures of her plastered over the press and media, and now there is another generation to face it.

My Dad couldn't stand her when she was alive, but he made such a big deal of her death. He actually woke me up to tell me about it, and had the news running on TV for days. We went shopping that day and the cars on the road were crawling along, everyone looking across to compare devastated expressions. Such a strange few days!

Kate and Wills looks fab. 'I'm just the girl he hangs out with, not the girl he takes home'

I wonder if Kate and Wills have seen it.

Zing she was a princess. As is Kate. They take the title if their husbands so Charles and William are Princesses. By marriage.

Kate simply goes by a different title in everyday life. As does Camilla.

DD in Yr 9 is doing a history module on Titanic. All I can remember from history at that age was the alcoholic dinosaur droning on about barons.

Anyway, I remembered that that I was once so obsessed keen with the film that I bought a special box set with books, photographs and VIDEOS of the film and the making of. She was most perplexed at the cassettes.

Alanna - I like that she tried to do the whole "We're out of time" guff and he was quick to counter that, rather then just simper over her.

What happened on Mayo's show?

I was 12 when she died and living in Northamptonshire. Some of my friends and their mothers took a picnic and camping chairs and went to spend the day lining the funeral route. I was revolted, tbh.

I love the way Mayo handled it though

Me too. Didn't make a meal of it, just let the whole thing speak for itself. Which it did.

I agree that the hysteria over her death was a black period for this country. The radio just playing muzak for several days, people walking around wearing black ribbons, flowers being left (to rot) outside every town hall

This film does have tv movie written all over it and Watts did indeed make an arse of herself on the Kermode and Mayo show, I love the way Mayo handled it though.

I'd rather watch the DVD then read "Princess Diana" one more time.

she was never a princess. why can't people understand that?

No, I don't want that for Christmas either.

Todays celebrity culture can be traced right back to the obsession with Lady Di/Princess Diana which began in the early 80s.

I liked Diana, I thought her death was sad but by the day of her funeral I could not get "Oh What A Circus" from Evita out of my head.

Best thing about this film (tenuously) was Naomi Watts making a prat of herself on Simon Mayo's show Wink

I went on a first date with a guy the day after she died. He sat sobbing over his curry.

Never saw the twat again.

Whole thing was completely and utterly OTT - and this country has not been the same since.

No, I don't want the DVD for Christmas either. YA-definitely-NBU.

With the usual disclaimer of feeling terrible for her children I can safely say I felt physically sick on the day of her funeral. Nauseating.

I used to take taxis a lot in those days and the radio would be endlessly playing from Aladdin.

Yanbu. I was 8 when she died. I think, ageing things up, I thought she was a whiny arse attention seeker. Didn't get the en mass mourning then and certainly don't get the way she is being turned into a saint now.

The Wills and Kate one was a work of absolute genius.

it was amazing I think this film will be cringy though or probably should have gone straight to true movies Grin

Why did Naomi Watts want to do it?

Meryl Streep as Thatcher, Helen Mirren as The Queen and Colin Firth as the King all have something in common...
