I am horrified with mother's who put phones/apps with white noise against their babies ears.
1 - you are putting radio waves next to the babies brain without knowing what future damage is caused.
2 - you don't know if it is at a safe volume for your baby's delicate ear drums (even if it's not against the ear).
As far as I can see the Magic Mitten is a safe option (no radio waves & a fixed safe volume) and if it calms a distressed baby with colic it's worth every penny.

Some of your responses have given me such a laugh. Perfect to help with DD2's first cold and DH with his first manful of the season.

Must admit did use Ewan the Dreamsheep for DD1 which she still adores at 2.6. White noise long since stopped working but did work fantastically when she was a baby.
But at least he is cute ish, cuddly,does not look like a loofah and significantly cheaper.

Did caught up a bit with DD1 buying crap. Think after so many years of working full time just basically had too much time on my hands and an amazon addiction while on mat leave.

This time round using very little but an 14 weeks still using Moses basket. Dreading DD2 growing out of it.

Will hopefully do BLW this time round with my trusty Antilope again so no extra equipment needed.

God remember reading baby mags must buy list with pfb convinced us we needed everything stupidly brand new,

I admit to buying the slumber bear white noise thing broke after a month was never convinced cant remember hiw much cost and think we were too tired so never got round to taking it back.

Brought the swing far too late,

baby no 1 cried for 9months even resorted to cranial ostepoath with dh acting like he was some sort of con artist.

I mostly like jojo but agree they pricey and ok specific things amzed they survived in recession when blooming marvellous dident.

Ikea high chair-my fave high chair ever.

moses baskets dident get huge amount use used and prefers mini travel cot with no 2 and no 3.

beaba cook can see appeal not just steamer and blender warms up food and after hours of being pureeing maniac and cleaning big blender with no 1 must be easier but did baby led weaning with no 2 and 3 and brouught the odd jar all organic of course.

But its gone up hell of a lot 1st born 2006 and last 2011 horrifie how much same products gone up

My guillty indulgent magazine was junior baby lots posh london types, designer nurseries, jojo adds and £100 tiffiny rattles and how to start baby list at department store we would never of had the cheek to do that.
I like to think in recession people less gullible

It's 'empowering for dads'. Thus implying that no one other than mum is good enough for their babies. I am offended on my husband's behalf, but maybe I'm lucky that actually 2 out of our 4 children settled very happily on him as infants (more so that on me if I'm honest). The other two were slightly prem twins and spent more time in hospital with me being their constant. But now they happily climb into daddy's lap for a cuddle.

Anyway, after pfb you soon learn how much crap you don't need. Simplicity is the key in our household. Although I appreciate people can see a need for it. Our dc have to make do with mummy and daddy's music choices on an old iPod in their room.

I had a Beaba steamer thing and I used it so much I blew the element on it. I got it replaced and still use it now, and we're a long time out of weaning etc! It's really handy for small amounts of stuff. I didn't have a magic glove but I couldn't hear DC crying over the noise of my manically steaming and pureeing!

DS has a Slumber Bear (same as the sleep sheep) and it worked a treat at getting him to sleep in his crib. Poor bear is now wrestled with/thrown out of cot on a daily basis.

I love the clothes in JoJos. So expensive though, only buy them in the sale.

When each of my DC3 was 9 months old and still not sleeping....I'd have considered anything.

Especially if I could have bought it as a gift for my husband!

Wow. The clothes from JoJo are lovely, but they do sell some utter rubbish. Most of which isn't produced by them anyway and can be found cheaper elsewhere... They should stick to clothes tbh.

Our crib, posh mattress, associated bedding, cot, posh mattress and associated bedding were our biggest money wasters - ended up co-sleeping as it felt right for us, and our son went into a single bed at 13 mths. Drat. Goes to show you never can tell...

Also what do you do once they are asleep - are you supposed to duct tape it to the baby's ear so that they still get the noise ??

Because if my children are anything to go by, as soon as you remove the mitten thingimy and lie them in bed they will wake screaming (assuming the thing works in the first place...)

I probably would have considered it for ds. I was desperate for anything to stop the screaming. I even considered one of those pram rocker things til I remembered he hated the pram most of all. Doubt I would have actually bought it though.
