AIBU?

To not like strangers kissing PFB?

In general I'm not precious about germs, fine with her to chew toys at baby groups so on, but I really don't like strangers kissing her.

To top it off today, a lovely old lady was talking to me and kissed her hand a few times, then mentioned that she had just been hospital for 3 days and was glad to be out again.

AIBU to say something in future, and what's the least rude way to? Or should I just take it as part of having a baby?

Ah bit of a sad thread and only in Britain.

On the continent babies are continually passed around and kissed.

We are bloody miserable here arnt we.

Oh yes and all old people are 'mank and slobbery'

I don't think the OP was suggested the lady had some sort of disease - I took it as the fact you can pick up awful infections you don't know about in hospital. I would be a bit Hmm about that but I wouldn't worry too much about the kissing on the hand in general.

I think its quite nice when people interact with the DCs as there are so many miserable people out there that would rather they stay locked up at home!!

YANBU. An older lady grabbed DDs toy out of her hand that she was happily chewing on and squeaking and started donking it on her head.

I was polite even though she called her a boy as well but was thinking get the fuck off my daughter please! Grin

Last night I picked my daughter up from drama and there was this young couple on the road, she had straddled him and they were deep into a french kiss.... An hour later I go by again on way to work and they were still there doing it! I thought it was very, very sweet - the innocence of the young boyfriend and girlfriend. The wanting to French Kiss on a street wall for ages and ages. Ahhh, I just thought they were sweet and imagined their houses full of parents and younger siblings so they buggered off out to kiss instead.

Don't be mean, wipe off her hands when they leave.
I know I had a little old man in the veg dept of the local shop ask if he could touch Ds feet, he was in a sling with his chubby bare feet sticking out when he was about 8 weeks old. He stroked his little feet and said sooo soft, he said he hadn't touched a baby in many years and was grinning from ear to ear when he walked away.

Stop being pleasant to people Grin

I hated it too. But hey if a stranger thinks your baby is gorgeous too, then lap it up. It won't be long till your shouting at them in the supermarket and nobody wants to come near them!

If you don't want to be rude, but want to say something, try along the lines of"oh shes just had a cold, watch you dont catch it" and step back.

DoJo she is usually on my hip as she screams in the pushchair, so in kissing height if I'm talking to anyone, which probably doesn't help!

It was her hand.

SHe might have been in hospital because of a fall or bad joints for all you know

I couldn't stand strangers putting their fingers in my babys' mouth.
With my last DC a mad lady followed me around Waitrose continually putting her finger in my baby's mouth telling me she was hungry.

Yuck.

I try to remember that some people, elderly ones in particular, might not have held or kissed a baby since their own. I hold my own baby and think what it would be like never to hold one again.

So I feel able to share him, just a little. Because, I don't know, maybe he just brings back memories, or makes people a little bit happier.

YAB maybe tiny bit U. Little old lady probably got a lot of joy kissing your baby (and they are so kissable), but yes, if I had been you and she'd mentioned about the hospital I would be a bit yeurk

She only kissed her hand though.......if she'd slobbered all over her face I would be a bit more in your corner, but a hand is not too bad

I think it's probably easier just not to get that close - how often are there strangers within kissing distance?
