To think my dr is a knob

I'm really fed up that my periods have gone AWOL, followed by bleeds lasting for 20 days. My dr says this is not a problem as long as I'm not looking to conceive.

I have been a few times now to my gp, had tests and a scan, with no cause found. Medications do not stop the heavy bleeding, and I need to constantly change my underwear, bed clothes and feel weak and dizzy. Sorry if tmi, but I have to change my wotsit at least 10 times a day.

I had an emergency gynae appt and was told my only option was an op to burn the lining of the womb. The gynaecologist and gp (both male) think its no big deal and that I need to get on with it.

I saw a female gynae last year who was shit, I cried at her she was so frustrating. I paid to see one privately and he was great, very knowledgeable. Nothing to do with their gender IMO.

I'm afraid I had the same after I stopped bfing dc2. They don't seem to be able to do much particularly if you aren't keen on hormonal contraceptives (I wasn't). I had a hysteroscopy and there us nothing sinister going on. It does seem to be only drastic options like a hysterectomy or ablation left like another poster said.

It's stopped now......I'm pregnant with an unexpected dc3! Not sure that's a helpful solution.

OP I used to have really heavy long periods which left me feeling ill and came with a lot of pain. I had a mirena a year ago and it's had totally changed thing. I barely felt it go in ( I have had 5 children though which probably helps!), I bled lightly for 4/5 weeks after and I get very light bleeding every 3 weeks for 1 -3 days. Every now and then I get proper period of 5/6 days bleeding but it is much lighter than before with a lot less pain. I know that some people get trouble with the mirena and I keep waiting for something to go wrong (voice of doom) but so far it's great.

Utter knob. My gynae is a man and he is awesome. I would definitely ask for further investigation. I have had a laporoscopy, hysteroscopy with d&c, smear and colposcopy and ultrasound to find my issues. Get a new dr.

I'd ask around for a recommendation re a GP who knows their arse from their elbow gynaecologically.

He's a knob. I don't think a female gynae will necessarily be an improvement. What you need is a better gynae regardless of what they pack in their under crackers.

I'm not sure what he would say or do differently but I would be interested to find out...

I can't take the pill as I get awful side effects but I do successfully have a mirena in place. Bloody hurt when in went in but that is because I had sections. No side effects, no periods but that's not the case for everyone.

from what I hear some people have horrid side effects and others think ots brilliant. Got to be worth a try though. at doc who didnt think to discuss these things with you though

I had a Mirena and it hurt when it went in, but apparently is less painful if you've already had children. I didn't notice any side effects and didn't have a period the whole time it was in. I've only had it removed as I had eggs harvested. I'd really recommend it. My periods weren't as bad as yours but I used to faint from the pain and I was fed up of being on the pill.

I'm worried about taking any hormone based contraceptives as I get so sick. I used to have a copper coil but my body expelled it.

Does the mirena coil cause side effects?

Went through something similar few years ago got coil in and never looked back.

I would change GPs OP and ask to be referred to a different gynaecologist. They are knobs!

have you tried a mirena coil, the pill or depo injection?

I have a lot of gynae issues and basically if there is no dangerous condition (which it sounds like they have done enough to rule out) There is pitifully little they can do that is not over dramatic. eg hystorectomy or ablation. ( using a wrecking ball when a hammer would do imho)

I had the same problem, I spent years going to my male gp about my horrendous periods and he just kept saying it was normal and basically implied that I was being a drama queen. I would bleed through a tampon and towel within 15 mins and couldnt stand up without passing out

I moved house and deliberately chose a new gp practice that was female only gp,s, the first time I went to see her she reassured me I wasn't making a fuss about nothing and it wasn't normal, she sent me for blood tests and I recently saw a gynecologist who has been great, they haven't figured out what's causing the heavy, painful periods but I've just had a mirena coil fitted, despite a few problems at first it seems to have settled down and I've just had what I assume was a normal pain free period.

I'm 34. Never had an gynae problems in the past. My husband and I don't plan to have anymore children, but the ablation leaves you infertile, which we were both concerned about, as it is such a final option.
