To think that dogs are loads better than cats?

They don't dig their claws in you to show they love you.
They get excited when you come home
They deter burglars
They sit on your feet when you ask them to
My son isn't allergic to them
They don't hide under furniture to claw you when you walk past
They don't leave half-dead 'presents' as often
They are less likely to bugger off to the neighbours and get lost.

he get excited when we come home
he likes to play fetch

I have a cat and a dog and live them equally.

However the dog (border collie) got manically excited and tried to dash into the house but chose the closed part of the patio door and slammed into it, nearly knocking himself out. The cat put her tail in the air and daintily stepped over him.

It really shook my opinion as to which was more intelligent.

YANBU!

Cats bring in wildlife to play with at 3am, forcing you out of bed so that you can rescue the latest mouse/vole/mole/baby rabbit and put it back outside before it decides to die of shock. Usually resulting in having to move every bit of furniture to recover the rotting corpse, once alerted by the smell.

They think gardens and vegetable patches are toilets. Fancy a bit of rotting cat shit in with your lettuces? No, me neither.

They wander around your kitchen work tops while you're trying to cook. If you put them on the floor/back outside they return 3 minutes later and give you a death stare.

They swipe (literally) food straight off your plate.

And to add insult to injury, it's not even my sodding cat! It's the neighbours!

(I do actually quite like cats. Even this one. But I wouldn't be that sad if it, y'know, fucked off to fuck and stayed there).

Mermaid it sounds like DP needs training too. Grin. Sounds like you are doing all the right things with the cats but it is so hard to break bad habits once they've become ingrained like that, you have my sympathy.

My cat has been locked in my room (by accident) for a whole day and he hasn't peed or pooed anywhere.
He usually gets to the door for us, and anyone who comes to visit.

And doesn't hiss. Only purrs.

Although he does tend to walk over us.

Mermaidavenue those cats behave that way 'cause your DP has allowed them to - cats can be trained, mine never steal food, never hiss, never claw. They also sound stressed out to me - pissing on beds etc - had they ever lived with a dog before you & your DP got together?

yeah but can your cat pick up their toys and put them away? huh?

Excuse me? Hmm

Why would cats pick up toys when they have humans to do it for them?

They're not stupid you know.

YABU because my cat is the best; she's got gorgeous soft fluffy fur & loves to snuggle up to me all the time; she misses me when i'm out & makes me laugh when i'm not happy :)

Oh i actually love my dog. Like he's an old aged furry child. I just adore him. I talk to him like hes my equal I'm actually that mad that my OH laughs his head off because I'm really polite to him for example "come in now please doggy" why am i saying please to a dog? Cos he's just god damn great. He's cuddly, attentive, gentle, knows when I'm down. Sounds like a perfect bf really? Except I wouldn't want my bf to lick his privates. I'm allergic to cats and although I like watching them be daft don't really understand how to handle them.

I prefer cats when my dog is being a little bugger, like the time he managed to escape from the garden and chase a 4x4 then managed to get ahead of the car and plonk his arse in the middle of the road, started barking and refused to let the driver continue on his journey Blush

Or the time he wandered into a field sniffing out rabbits not knowing it was a cow field he was entering, once he clocked the cows he decided they looked friendly enough to try and play with until the cows chased him which resulted in my friend having to try and grab him through a barbed wire fence!!!

Another time I had bathed him in the morning so he was nice and clean for dh's return home after months away, i took him out for a walk and he decided to roll in dog shit Angry I could go on with more stories but won't.

I must be mad as dchildren and dh have convinced me to get another dog which we pick up In 3 weeks time, it might have been better if we had opted for a cat.

I don't like cats either. But they don't poo in my garden.

I do think owners who let their dogs poo without clearing up are horrible selfish people.
