To think that shaving your arms is weird?

A girl at work was showing me something on my PC today and I couldn't drag my eyes away from her babies-bottom smooth arms (clearly paying a lot of attention to her instructions)

I honestly didn't realise it was a done thing except perhaps for a few women who had pcos type issues.

I have very very very fine practically invisible arm hair, and it has never ever occurred to me it might need done, however to make it up I had gorilla legs until a few years of waxing made it finer!

I've known a few beauticians who wax their arms. They offered to do mine but I declined as sods law I'd end up with another place to get ingrown hairs.

I know quite a few women who do. The common theme is that they are all pale skinned with dark hair or of arab/asian descent (so darker skin but very dark hair). Most women who do it don't advertise it, because it is not seen as "normal" to have so much hair there that you need to remove as opposed to e.g. shaving legs.

Ive shaved my arms since I was a teenager, and toes as well, and knuckles!

My arms get shaved more often than my legs, espcially in winter!

I just simply didn't realise it was something people did! It's completely new to me.
It's a fashion office that I'm working in so I guess the "fashion" argument makes sense but if I'm being honest I guess shaving anywhere is weird when you really think about it I'm not going to stop though, socially conditioned or not it doesn't change the fact that I want to shave my legs and armpits

I confess I don't really notice if people shave their arms or not, but can vaguely recall some friends years ago who did.

I wouldn't ever do it. My hair is blonde and very fine, so scarcely noticeable anyway.

I still remember being about 15 and a girl in my class stroking my arm hair and telling I was very hairy. It really upset me at the time as I have very dark hair but in the 20 years since then I have never thought of removing it. I just didn't think it was something that people did. You learn something new everyday. If you want to do it do it and if you think your friend has hairy arms just don't bloody mention it.

We were on the beach a while ago and this friend of a friend (who I fucking loathe anyway) told my male friend that he should trim his armpit hair.

What the hell? I couldn't believe it. I would never presume to tell someone what to do with their body hair, it's such a weird thing to do. Do people really care that much?

Besides which, I like armpit hair. It's a million times nicer than the rashy stubbly mess you sometimes see when people shave.

I didn't realise, but since I came on mumsnet, I have thought about hair removal! I think I am a product of my 90s youth. I shave legs and underarms, do bikini line, trim "bikini hair" that's it. My partner (2 years younger) shaves his face twice a week.

I'm out of step. There is NO WAY anyone other than a doctor for a good reason, or my partner for a different one is getting close to my fanjo.

Men can have these worries too. DH has gone from a bit of chest fluff to what is rapidly becoming a rather naice hairy chest. I like to stroke him. I think it is very sexy, he is also a lovely ginger blonde which I love rubs thighs, turns out I was making him self conscious and he started making noises about shaving it.

I like my fur, I don't remove any body hair at all, with the exception of keeping my underarm hair clipped (not shaved) so that it doesn't catch on my gym clothes.

I don't understand the fashion for the removal of body hair. Just can't get my head around why it is preferred. But hey, whatever floats your boat. People can do what they like with their bodies, it is no skin off my nose.

DH shaves his face, so that we can see him. That is all the hair removal he does so I don't see why I have to do more. Other than haircuts obviously because long hair can be a PITA.

Meant to say YABU as it's not weird to shave excess hair that you don't want there, wherever it is. Many people do it every day on various bits of them. Arms are no different

I have honestly never even thought of arm hair as something to get rid of! I'm not overly hairy in general but do shave/wax/immac underarms, legs and bikini line. Am a bit worried now!

I remove arm hair. Perhaps if I didn't I'd fall into the man-beast category too? I am doomed.

I have inch-long arm hair, very fine but also quite dark and definitely noticeable - I had huge issues with it as a teen so never bared my arms in public. Not fun.
Have got over it since, but am still way hairier than any other woman I know.

I tried waxing my arms before my wedding on the advice of my blonde-no-arm-haired sister, baaaaaad idea! All it did was give me awful ingrown hairs and red pimply arms. Ugh.
But having bare arms felt lovely, and it was nice not looking down at the orangutan pelt in the summer. Might try Veeting them, see if that works for me! :)

It sounds silly as I'm quite self-conscious about my appearance, but I've only recently noticed that I have hairy man arms. Like seriously, I was looking at my arm in bed and for a moment I thought I had company for once. And I've only just clocked that this isn't "normal" for women. I think unless you have very hairy arms then you have to watch you aren't becoming a bit obsessive and body dysmorphic when you start regularly removing hair from your arms. Some people (usually young women) can get very strange about the slightest hint of body hair.
I think life's too short to shave my arms, I only do my legs in summer. I've never met a man who has been bothered by arm and leg body hair in a woman either way.
Alot of women get folliculitis from constant hair removal as well, fine soft hair on your arms is much nicer than spotty arms, same re your foof.
