To not want to try my breast milk???

A couple of my friends are surprised that I haven't tried it. Why the hell would I want to?

It's probably different for different people, the taste I mean. Apparently you either have a gene or you don't which affects the way cucumber tastes to you- either it's bitter or not.
I love cucumber, all my dad's side of the family do! not bitter for me

I hate to say it, because I am a big fan of breastfeeding/ breastmilk, but the idea of trying mine made me feel squeamish. I never had much luck expressing, maybe if I'd expressed a nice glass of it and put it in the fridge . .. but not a dribble direct from my nipple!

DD loved it though which was the main thing. I expect mine tasted of cake and red wine as that was all that got my through the first two years

I don't like cows milk and don't drink that so I don't have any desire to drink my own breastmilk either. I licked a droplet off my hand but that was enough!
Haven't tried formula, mainly because it smells vile. A friend of mine used to test the temperature of her babies bottles by having a swig through the teat. Boak.

My breastmilk was lovely. Tasted like rockmelon. I also accidently tasted a friends (was babysitting, making up a bottle, spilled some and licked my arm before I realised what I was doing), hers was much creamier tasting than mine but still fine.

Formula however tasted like shit, yuck.

I can't do milk anymore. It grosses me out to think I am drinking the milk of another species. For some bizarre reason though yoghurt, cheese, butter and even cream are fine. But milk makes me want to chuck. Doesn't make any sense at all.

I don't think it is a rule that you have to try it though.

Isn't cow's milk pus? That's pretty disgusting really. At least you know what's gone into your own milk by looking at what you've been eating.

If you don't want to try it; don't.

It is your choice. Nobody should make you feel bad about it.

On a slightly related note: there is no excuse for the dinner ladies that forced me to eat boiled cabbage. I hope they all died long, slow, miserable deaths, preferably from painful, embarrassing and humiliating diseases.

I don't see how you can avoid tasting it - even a tiny drop licked off your finger. It's sweet and tastes nothing like formula; in fact, I tasted formula recently and it was just not very...milky. Weird.

I breast-fed all four of my children and none of them has a particularly sweet tooth in adulthood, but it's something I used to wonder about. Obviously nature recognises that a nice sweet food is attractive to a newborn.

I tried dairy free formula numericalmum. I ended up bfing DS until he was 2 as he wouldn't take it and after trying it I didn't want him to have it either!!! Vile, vile stuff.

I tried a drop of my breast milk, very sweet as others have said.

I tried mine. Super sweet, during pregnancy and while BF after DS was born I was on a very healthy low sugar diet to keep my BM as good as it could be . No idea what causes such a sweet taste. Formula tasted horrible.

Also found it good for spots, conjunctivitis and nappy rash.

I don't mean downing a glass or pouring it on your pancakes, I mean licking spills off your hand when you have over-supply or temp testing when you express etc

My dd had dairy free formula when she was older and that turned my stomach when I made the bottles. Just stank. No way I could have tasted it either.

I had some colostrum on a spoon in late pregnancy, I had a horrible chest infection, I also used it to clean DS eyes from conjunctivitis as I didn't want that spreading just before DD arrived, works a treat. My colostrum was very yellow and sticky, but had loads.

I've breastfeed for 3months now and I can honesty say the thought to try it has never crossed my mind.
I did stick some on one of my partners spots once and it cleared it up really well!

I don't drink milk (fussy). Tried my own and thought it tasted of tinned peaches. Never tried formula because it has fish oil in and I'm a veggie.

I tried mine, had expressed and dropped a little bit on my finger by mistake, so licked it off. Its very sweet. Given the choice, I'd rather drink breast milk than cows milk, simply because of the milking process!

If you don't want to try it, then don't.

I do think its interesting how people get about adults trying breast milk though. We drink the milk of another creature without even a seconds thought, and yet breast milk brings out a whole range of reactions!

Im really surprised how few people tried it by accident. Express, heat, test temperature on arm, lick to catch drip... Must've dine that a hundred times!
I often though the no sugar rules are a but daft too, it's supersweet. Interestingly I've just moved dd onto 1-2yr formula (I know it's a con but Im not having mych luck getting her to take cows milk yet) and that smells much much sweeter than her previous formula.

Never try lacto free formula though, that is truly truly vile!
