AIBU?

to list stuff that makes me go hmm

n/c as I'm not normally controversial! But feel like it today. There's a lot of stuff I read on here that makes me go hmm. You know things that are said with authority but I am not so sure. I'm not saying they're definitely not true, but I do get a bit twitchy when I read them. Eg the one I've just read about purees delaying speech (DD is BLW but out of sheer laziness not because I'm worried about this!) and

-It's just as easy to choke on purees as it is finger foods.
-Food is fun before they're one
-Babies' gag reflexes are further forward than ours
-Breastfed babies are less fussy as they've tried a variety of food tastes via breastmilk

Oh I can only think of food related ones right now (must be hungry) but I've seen loads more!

Can you add the tedious self-appointed forum police to your hmm list?

Seriously, what is the point?

Bus shelter outside the maternity unit, made DH walk the 10 minutes from the pay and display as I was fiiiiiine no rush (was not fine clearly).

MW recorded delivery of DD 4 minutes after finding me outside, that included getting me in a wheelchair and removing pants, she was already there Blush

Oh and FF is the devil, slings are only used by mums who have their own attachment issues, babies should be in cots until 6, ditto dummies, and Gina Ford eats babies.

"I delivered DD2s head on the pavement" Shock

Where were you?

Report
Softlysoftly · 15/11/2012 12:05

Hypnobirthing DOES WORK to remove yourself from pain/stress/panic in a normal labour and may help keep you calm when complications occur.

I delivered DD2s head on the pavement because I trances out do much I hadn't realised I was pushing until DH woke me.

Had a fucking traumatic labour with DD1 and I did hypnobirthing to relieve the panic I was feeling coming up to the 2nd.

Of course it doesn't prevent complications that would be stupid but YABU to say it doesn't work at all. In fact it is being tested as a pain relief method by the NHS

Out of interest, if its not allowed to be a day earlier than 6m (as my idiot HV said), do they go from due date or birth date. In their expert opinion, is my 16 day late hulk of a child in need of food on the exact same day as a 24 weeker?

"And...um...formula is healthier than breastmilk. Cots are prison cells. Slings are dangerous. Dummies are like crack. Gina Ford is my God [head spins] - SO THERE!!"

That's more like it! Grin

Ok Rachel, I will accept that one as definitely true, seeing as a HV said it Grin

My Hv told me that research shows that if you wean a baby too soon it can give them allergies to certain foods as their digestive system isnt ready for anything other than bf or ff until 6 months.

Whether its true is a different story. :)

I started weaning mine at around 8 weeks. They have survived - thrived I would say! All grown up now. FF 2 of them and only BF the other 2 for 4 weeks.

I know I should be locked up but things wuz different then.

Oh and my mum fed my sister evaporated milk out of a bottle cos she was small and the midwife told her to!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 15/11/2012 11:49

The BF/chewing one is true, because a BF baby "chews" the boob to get the milk, rather than sucking

Hmm, stuff that makes me go hmm....

My own personal bugbear is anyone raving about hypnobirthing. "Honestly it really works"

DOES IT FUCK!

My opinion - most people who say it worked had textbook labours anyway. All the fecking rainbow relaxation in the world did nothing soon as that fuckwit nice medical person dived in with both hands and manually turned DD1 who was evidently attempting a last minute breech delivery, Tom Daley style

Worst £200 I've ever spent!

Just seing BLW makes me go hmm...

I'm an awfully fussy eater. I was formula fed and given baby rice/rusks in my bottle from like a month of age and then started on solids at around three months.. You'd be lynched if you did any of the above (minus ffing of course) now! But mum said thats what was advised at that time for big hungry babies, oh and sugar water for colic..

I do find it a bit Hmm that weaning is now from 6 months+ when it was always 4 months for absolutely yonks and none of us are ill or dead (certainly not because of that), and baby foods still all say 4 months+ so it can't be that dangerous..

I'm with you, I BF and BLW because i'm lazy.

worra yes I know, I realised it was a bit shit in the controvery stakes, but I'm normally a naice girl who doesn't start bunfights - look I couldn't even properly manage one this time. Fight, all of you, please, I demand it

When I read "n/c as I'm not normally controversial! But feel like it today."

I thought this thread was going to be a tad more interesting Grin

But you name changed to list some foods and inform us that you're not saying they're definitely not true, but you get a bit twitchy? Confused

Who the hell are you? I demand to know!

We may have to hunt you down and type you to death across the internet....

I'm sure that's true Naked in those cases (although I don't see why diced and mince wouldn't be the same raw material) but the fact is most of the time you can taste the difference in shit products.

Wish it wasn't the case as it would be cheaper and nicer but it is.

Report
Floggingmolly · 15/11/2012 11:11

That is true, Naked, I agree.

PoppyAmex I have worked in a factory that packaged fresh food like mince and diced beef and it was same stuff, different packaging. I also worked in a factory bottling vodka and whiskey and the cheap stuff you see is same stuff but different labels.

"All food brands/produce are actually the same, just different packages, really. They come from the same factory/farms and you're a numpty for paying more"

Yeah, sure.

oh another food one I read was BF babies cope better with BLW than FF'd ones as their jaws are more developed eh?
