AIBU?

to think teachers and schools do a fooking amazing job, and to be stunned and disgusted that they get such unnecessary arse-ache from ridiculous parents?

Im despairing of the amount of AIBU threads recently along the lines of- teachers shouldnt be telling my dc to go to bed early/ shouldnt be promoting 100% attendance blah blah blah

I understand there are other routes to adulthood besides main-stream education. But whilst you do use mainstream education you should understand what a difficult job it is for schools and teachers to educate groups of 30 children and maintain discipline, if those children are late/absent/tired and if the parents are constantly undermining the teachers/schools authority.

Schools have a whole diversity of families and children to accomodate including children with English as a 2nd/3rd language, social problems,SENs, disabilities and a whole range of abilities to cater for within each class. The last thing they need on top of this is spending valuable time and resources accomodating whiney-arsed parents who think the rules should not apply to them because they are in some way 'special'; ie. they are educated and rich and capable of home tutoring to facilitate an extended trip and absence from school. Ifthat isthe case, then do your home schooling and free up the schoolplace for a child that is not going to disrupt the class by extended absences/lateness and duvet days.

And, no, having your childrens lead an enriched and cultured lifestyle does not constitute a valid excuse for lateness and tiredness. Get your kids to bed on time so the teachers have the best chance of getting the best education to the most kids

There are very many countries and cultures where only1 child per family is educated (at best) because the family cannot afford more. This is almost always not a daughter

Its appalling. Education is a priviledge. What chance in hell do teachers have of getting kids to appreciate that, if the parents insisted on taken it for granted.

And finally, big-up to the teachers on here. You do a grand job, in the face of lunacy!

beejeezus sooo...you are annoyed because some people are thoughtless and arrogant? Erm...welcome to real life??? Smile

Whether its other parents at school, co workers, neighbours, whoever...there will always be arseholes about who think they are above the rules or that the rules dont apply to them or their circumstances.

One of my major issues is parents who send their kids into school ill knowlingly and thereby infect the other kids (and of course teachers). As the mother of a child who had an impaired immune system it upset me very much and we had more than one hospital stay due another parents thoughtlessness/ignorance. What can you do?

Ok LeQueen, sorry your post initially irritated me because it seemed rather, "And so what, that's nothing......" in tone, which we would all agree was not the case.

Anyway (back to the OP, in general terms, of course there are fab teachers and crap teachers, as well as fab parents plus some who seem sometimes to go to weird lengths to be affronted by anything schools do. Luckily the latter are in the minority.

Just like anyone else, some are FANTASTIC (with sparkly hearts) and some are middling and some are just plain awful, truly awful.

I take your point but at least one adult did not help. I can only speak from mine and dss experience and the the teachers were and still r wonderful. Remember their friend and fellow teacher was clearly dead, I expect I would have acted as they did as well but I still have the right to praise them.

Most teachers are great.

Some teachers are amazing (DS's last teacher, for example, was one of the most wonderful and highly skilled teachers I have ever come across).

Some teachers are really, really shit.

DP is HT of a school with very some very troubled children (& parents). the staff learn restraint positions & use them.

sometimes staff get injured by pupils because it is not easy to get someone on the correct postion without them damaging you.

I dont think the average person would generally be so generous to put the welfare of someone else's child before their own.

I've been on threads where people have defended schools to the hilt when they were clearly in the wrong. They excuse astounding errors by saying "mistakes happen" and all have this really weird cult-ish attitude of craning thier necks because they look up to the schools, trustong thier judgement, no matter what.

It's all, "Yes Miss, no Miss." It's a if the only good time these people had wa at school and they will not have a bad word said against them.

I agree that schools do try but to say that they're above question or reproach is ludicrous.

LeQueen - and your point then is????? That we mustn't think anything nice about the teachers who did behave as you (who have never been in this situation) think that you would? Mustn't feel grateful? Isn't it actually thebody's opinion on this that counts, rather than yours, in this particular instance?

Thanks so much, dd is ok, has facial scars but is dealing well with these, has been looking at foundation Bless her, absolutely petrified of motorways and the dark at moment and has had flash backs which were induced by a screech of tyres but early days and she getting there, we were very lucky, the Dutch crash was unspeakable.

So sorry to hear that thebody.

How is DD now?

As to whether we'd have all done the same? Not sure. I'd like to think so but you don't know how trauma will affect you until it happens.

Thanks yes all still early days of coming to terms with it all mops, yes it was the Alvechurch coach crash, still have 2 girls in hospital.

I would take your point about shock but both drivers had been vile to the children and rude to teachers all week and they had already decided to complain, then the other bastard fell asleep at the wheel.

Sorry to hijack thread anyway but just wanted to say our school and staff are and have been amazing.

Was this the incident that happened not so long ago? How awful for you all. I can't imagine the trauma those teachers have experienced because ultimately they are responsible when on these trips. Wish you all well. Thanks
