AIBU?

to feel completely unable to cope with life anymore?

Got home after 2 weeks away for work to find that, although I had left the heating on, the mains water pipe is frozen, so not able to wash clothes or myself.
Tried to use the internet, it wasn't working. Nothing wrong with my network. This is happening more and more, which stresses me more and more because it means I cannot even think about working from home, let alone checking in for flights online, doing online banking or anything else that large commercial organisations seems to think it is reasonable to expect their customers to do these days.
Had 3 demands in the post, 2 for services I hardly ever use as I am away so much. 1 was a reminder for something, which I think they expect me to do online, how?
Cannot keep up with all the things I am supposed to insure for or against or whatever.
Cannot concentrate on my work, because there are so many other things that need my attention just for me to be regarded as a human being/number.
Have nobody to delegate to :-(
Really feel like disappearing into the sunset.
Any solutions?

How much time off work have you had lately for fun?

You sound burnt out.

I'm sorry that you're feeling overwhelmed, E320, some days/weeks/months are more difficult than others and you can feel like you're wading through treacle.

Those things that you're talking about will need handling; there are plenty of people who have nobody to 'delegate' to. I think making a list of each service and seeing what's needed/been asked for will help. Tackle each one and if you don't want to do online banking, set up direct debits/standing orders instead. Cancel what you don't need/want.

For today though, sort out your frozen pipes/clothes and eat something, you sound quite run down as well as being fed up. Make your list, tick them off as you go, and put your feet up and relax when you've had a good bash at it - then crack on again tomrorow morning.

Thanks both.
I have had no time off for about 4 years due to the economic climate and needing to work away, abroad.
Not at home now, so heating still on and one valve of the water system turned off.
I have all my stuff set up on direct debits, but earning money in different countries sometimes means that my "fortune" is not where the bills are.
Relax is a foreign word to me :-(

Not everyone can get time off but you still need to try to take time "for you".

I agree with lying- the more organised that you are the easier life is and tackling things one at a time.

It's tough when work involves traveling, but you need to find an interest even if it is reading.

But you do need to make sure that you are finding something fun to do, even if it is a favourite film and food (or whatever you 'thing' is).

If you work away that often, OP, what about a propery management company who could rent out your home on a short-term basis? You can get permission from your building society mortgage provider for this so it's on a formal footing.

What about neighbours? Is there somebody who could check water/heating for you whilst you're away?

You really do need to get a handle on these things otherwise they'll play on your mind whilst you're away and you'll worry about them constantly. That will impact on your abiliity to enjoy life and really, these things should be easily sorted. Tackle the easiest ones today to get them out of your hair.

If you are not at home, you need to make sure someone is checking your house for you. If the water is frozen inside the house then the problem will be when it thaws as that's when you discover if you have a burst pipe. Sorry, to stress you more, but it's really best to make sure this is checked very regularly to limit the damage as much as possible. Our water froze before, and we were home, but it had frozen outside the house. Is the stop cock turned off so that the mains water isn't coming in to the house at the moment?
As everyone else has said, the more things are sorted, the less you have to worry about on a daily basis. Things stack up and get on top of you. Have you contacted your network provider to get your internet sorted?
Set up standing orders between your accounts so that you know the bills are covered?

get a diary/organiser, write down everything you need to do as it occurs

sort out direct debits

sometimes shit happens to all of us, its life, you have to deal with it or run away to tazmania and as you cant book your flights to tazzy online, you will have to deal with it :)
