AIBU?

to be really irritated with the film "I don't know how she does it" even before I've seen it?

I've never read the book either. I'm judging purely on things I've read elsewhere which is of course utterly right and proper :o

AIBU to want to run screaming from the room when ever I see the trailer. I mean. What's the big deal? She works. She has children. Er... yeah. So do millions of others every single day without making a fuss. Get over yourself love.

I've read the book. It's okay.

Biggest problem I have is the Kate Reddy was smart and sassy, whereas SJwankingP will no doubt make her this pathetic, simpering little girlie.

Bet they leave the red bra bit out too!!

:O

I saw a report from New York Fashion Week yesterday - apparently there were posters all round advertising the film. Someone had grafitti'd one with the words "We do. She hires a Latina nanny!" Grin

I agree SJP will blight it utterly. She is too old/nicey/American to play the lead, whose name I think its Kate Reddy, not Helen? (Helen Reddy is a So Over singer - I am woman, hear me roar...).

I too hate Sex and the City, I fear. I normally loathe SJP, but I'd have liked to see her performance as a dog - yes, a real, four-legged dog - on the Broadway stage. Grin.

However, and despite my aversive relations with the Daily Mail, I actually liked the book. Bit of a shameful pleasure, and I found the romance plot very irritating, but I found most of it funny. Not Tolstoy, but funny.

I found the book frustrating and the character hard to sympathise because she had the luxury of choices that are completely unavailable to most working mums yet didn't appreciate them.

I like SJPs acting and think she easily passes for mid thirties at 44.

I haven't read the book but I will go and see the film - hopefully alone.

she moved to cambridge didn't see and wrote patronising shite about there too

have to admit I've never heard it comapred to Chesterfield before

quite CN I know lots who would send shop bought ones (who cares) but absolutely no one who would try and make them look home made

as if anyone who has been in sniffing distance of a kitchen or a mince pie would think hitting them with a rolling pin would make them look home made

i did quite like sjp in satc on a whole (NOT in satc 2 though, that was shit), but if you think she's bad in this movie, have you seen 'did you hear about the morgan's?', it's beyond awful.

Ah yes, the mince pie episode. I remember feeling so sorry for her that hadn't the self-confidence to just send the shop-bought ones as they were. Sad

I haven't read the book as it's not the sort I like.

Ditto the reason I will not see the film.

BUT YANBU - it makes me gnash my teeth just watching the trailer!

Hmm, I liked the book a lot BUT I agree that SJp is crappy casting and yes, she doesn't exactly have the same lifestyle that the book is talking about so no, you're not BU!

The trailer irritates me.

The expression "busy mums" and ads aimed at "busy mums". I refuse to be "busier" than my husband thank you very much.

The Maltesers ad irritates me, ooh look at the naughty lady.

I'd quite like to see it!

I just watched the trailer. It made me laugh. And then I got a bit teary at the end.

I don't have strong feels about the book (never read it), the author (never heard of her, don't read the mail or the telegraph) or SJP (never watched SATC) - which might help!

Book was OK.
Won't be watching the film as SJP annoys me.
Why does she have a little girl voice and old ladies hands?

daft book
I switched off at the bashing shop bought mince pies in relation to the title and the dilemma concerning the aupair and the nanny

Hated her next book I Think I Love You about David Cassidy fans. Bleugh.

The end, she gives up work but there is a suggestion she is going to start consulting on a start up with her sister's failing employer.

In the book she does quit high-powered job (after getting male colleague sacked for being a sleaze), down sizes and spends more time with family. She does then go on to set up women and environmentally dolls-house company but is still pretty bad ending.

I read it, and I liked it, found it funny and starkly illustrative of how I felt sprinting to city thameslink every evening to get back to put DS in bed. Is quite old now, but still relevant to many issues. Yes she has a good job etc. but she is struggling to maintain her career and be there for her children without giving up all she had worked for.

SJP. Horrors. Felt betrayed and cheated. Also who said abt SATC with Charlotte being stressed with the nanny and the 2 kids. Grrrr. Also Charlotte upset bec her daughter got handprints on her vintage valentino skirt? Serves you right for wearing it in the kitchen luv.

Also annoyed by the trailers, but haven't read the book. Amazon reviews say the ending is terrible - anyone care to enlighten me (if no one minds?)? Does she quit the high-powered job or what?

I've never read it. I was totally put off by Allison Pearson herself who promoted/mentioned/quoted/cited/referred to her flippin' book at every single opportunity - and of course being a journo, she had plenty of opportunity. I groaned when I heard about the film - more of Ms Pearson talking about herself and oh! what was that? You've written a book, have you Allison? I didn't know that.
Go away, you are boring.

Report

rookie my point exactly... I'm judging the book entirely on the film trailer, totally unreasonable assessment of a books qualities I agree. Maybe it's just the terrible casting of SJP that makes me want to gnash my teeth in fury!

I was very irritated by the book, and by the author when she turned up to do a women in the workplace type speech at my work and read from a script. She's a daft bint who writes for the Daily Mail.
