I've been reading some AIBU threads, and I can't help but notice that a lot of people end up making the same point as one another. Like "omg YABVU! You are odd" or "of course YANBU! What a weirdo!" or "I haven't bothered reading this thread, but I'll leap in anyway with the first conclusion everyone else came to anyway because I haven't read any of the OP's clarifications as they've been lost within the morass of everyone else leaping to the same conclusion as me!".

Now I know we're all unique little butterflies and sometimes wish for our individual voices to be heard, which is great, of course as many comments as one wishes to make ought to be accommodated within the great forums of MN but AIBU to think it'd save a whole lot of something (it's midnight, I should go to bed...) if MNHQ added a little "thumbs up" type button to posts so MNers could agree with a post they agreed with... so lets say 7 people agreed with a post it just says "7 people think you're talking sense" rather than trawling through half a page of those 7 people chiming in but basically just to agree.

Most forums are at risk of "popularity politics" to some degree. So I think any feature that feeds into that can turn it from an easily ignorable element on the part of the disinterested, into the most hottly debated subject on the board. Which risks making a good chunk of the conversations\debates on offer both tedious and depressing.

I also like the collapse and hover feature you used to see on other furums where you can reduce complicated and long nested threads to their headings and read the only messages you are interested in, by hovering over the title of the reply.

@LRD - hm, I suppose if you take m'name literally it does sound a little strong. A salted honey caramel might be surprisingly good though. I'm interested in food combinations which oddly work. Like I was given banana ketchup t'other day which was actually really good, and if you put a teaspoon of white wine vinegar in your fluffy pancakes it makes them fluffy and nice and you can't taste the vinegar. What does LRD stand for? Am all in favour of being a feminist nutcase...

@worraliberty - indeed. This forum: apracticalwedding.com/ has an "exactly" button which doesn't seem to inhibit conversation at all. You can think someone else is talking sense without being some sort of subjucated fangirl. I'd like to see nested direct replies too....

Lots of forums have 'like' buttons and have had them long before FB was around.

I'd like to see one on MN because sometimes the thread gets so long and you log back in to see someone's directed a post at you or mentioned your name in it...and it'd be nice just to click 'like' to let them know you've read it.

Yes I was thinking an FB 'Like' style button, but then it doesn't give people the credit of thinking for themselves and choosing whether to read the whole thread rather than annoyingly butting in with whatever pops into their head. Yes it is a bit annoying but do we really need to copy FB and the DM? Good points or advice might get lost in the thumbs up/down overall result by people not fully reading the post.
