Allergies and intolerances

where else, apart from Macdonalds, can we eat out and see allergy lists?

dd4 has egg, milk, and peanut allergies, and has been given an epipen.

i knoew macdonalds were good for listing allergens, and there half a dozen or so items that dd4 can actually have, though she may get fed up of fish fingers when she is older.

where else lists things well? when i have asked before if they could find out if things were cooked in butter or oil, or milk added, when out and about i get a lot of blank looks and 'i dunno'

We go to Pizza Express a lot - dd is allergic to dairy, egg, tree nuts and fish. She has a no cheese pizza and raspberry sorbet for dessert which she is really pleased with because most of the time she misses out on desserts. The staff in our local have recently been retrained on allergies, last time they made her pizza twice because the waiter cut the first one using a cutter previously used on a cheese pizza and then remembered he shouldn't have done.
Carluccio's and Nandos also good; in fact we find most chains have an allergy booklet available when we ask. We find a lot of childrens' meals non allergy friendly though so usually need to tweak the menu or choose an adult meal.

DD is nut and egg allergic. We don't eat out that much!

Nando's again, although they do use a lot of nuts and seeds around the place. Last time we went I heard the manager calling out that it was an order for a nut allergic person, which seemed good.
McDonalds
Pizza Express
Giraffe is pretty good
Pret a Manger has good allergy info - virtually all sandwiches have mayonnaise though

Marks and Spencer for some of their ready meals.

Good luck!

I've heard good things about harvester, a friend who is dairy soy, egg and gluten free was able to eat there, they had seperate preparation area and adapted things for her also.

Nando's has an easy to use allergy folder and the manager will personally make your meal.

My friend's DD has similar allergies to your DD and they go to Pizza Express. They've never had any problems.

Beefeater and Table Table (both part of Whitbread group) have allergy info available online so you can check what they can and can't eat before you go. The Harvester website allows you to check what's suitable for certain allergies too.

Nandos and gourmet burger both have allergy books.

When we were in NYC we went to Babycakes and it was amazing, we could basically eat everything, and we did. Wish there was one near me, though I'd be a lot fatter if there was!

Joe Delucci's which you find in a lot of shopping centres do dairy and egg free ice cream and have an allergy card you can look at. The DC were most delighted.

We avoid Starbucks because they have a folder of ingredients but in our experience it isn't often up-to-date so I daren't ever trust it.

DC and I have multiple allergies and we stick to McDonalds, Pizza Hut and our local Frankie & Bennys where they now know us and are great. Though where we live there isn't much choice anyway.
Near us there is a independent cafe that are fabulous, the food is great and everything is made fresh so she knows exactly what is in each dish. We go there mostly now and she even keeps some things in for the DC so they can have a pudding. She must make a fortune off us!

Nandos, wagamamas, dominos.

Can't think of any others at the moment, but most big chains are pretty good with ingredients lists.

Waitrose cafe staff went and got a folder for me once with all the ingredients. They were extremely helpful.

If you're in WGC, Saino's cafe will have a folder, so you have to ask. They will show it to you, if you ask. I do think that most places just don't train staff enough in this area, which is appalling when you consider that food allergy is potentially life threatening to some!

I was going to say Wagamamma and Pizza Hut, but they've already been mentioned.

A lot of restaurants will check for you, but it does depend on how helpful and knowledgeable they are. If you insit that they check they usually will - just be prepared to walk out if they clearly aren't taking it seriously.

We've had "pizza will be fine then" - er, no, not if it has any cheese on it, and "the sausage is organic" - so does that mean it containg organic egg, or not? We've also had lovely staff who, for example, have come with dessert menus, apologetically explained that the ice cream contains egg (now grown out of milk allergy, hurrah!), but the chef suggested giving her some strawberries if she'd like (nowhere on menu, she did like, very much).

A friend takes her DDs to the local vegan restaurant - you obviously have to watch out for nuts, but her allergic DD loves being able to eat cake.

Costa have an allergy handbook behind the counter with red/green/yellow (yellow is produced in same factory as) charts of everything but they don't really advertise it, wonder if other places do
