@Ohbuggeroffcovid

Disappointing news.

It seems to have burst by itself in the night! I did not feel it as was zonked but this morning it appears to have gone down in size. I’m going to jump in shower again and see if I can redeem anything by giving it a squeeze and see what happens.

I feel slightly cheated when that happens. Although it's nice for the pain to go!

These run in my family. Yours sounds the same as a Bartholin cyst. If they get really really bad then pop themselves they don't usually come back. If they don't pop then they recur over and over. You have two glands so expect the other one to do the same in coming years.

Hopefully it's popped as the pressure has gone so quickly. I had raw skin flaps when the infection had drained so you might be able to see something with a small mirror.

You may still need antibiotics for any residual infection so talk to your GP. Bartholin cysts are buggers for recurring. Also, as pp said, they can be an early warning sign of the onset of diabetes so GP may advise a blood glucose test.

That's good news! I hope you can get rid of the rest of it if not I'd still seek medical advice as it may need antibiotics to shift it.

If it's not a Bartholin's cyst, it could be Hidradenitis Suppartiva. Also agonising and requires antibiotics, and possibly painkillers and lancing/wound care.

Sorry OP, I hope you feel better soon Sad

To treat these properly you need them surgically treated in hospital. Just popping them will provide temporary relief (but isn’t ideal in that area of the body) but you still need it done properly

I used to lance with a sterilised needle when it was ripe and squeeze.

@6demandingchildren

Try a bread poultice, heat some bread as hot as you can stand and wrap it in Muslim or kitchen roll and lane it on the site until it cools, repeat as necessary as the yeast draws things to the surface to Lance easily as l and less pain.

Definitely don’t need to put a Muslim on your fadge Grin

You need medical attention, I had recurring bartholin abscesses and needed the whole gland removed in the end, heat on it will help.

I’ve had a bollockle follicle on my labia and that hurt like hell. Softened it up by having as hot as I could stand baths with Epsom salts in. Then it burst and the relief was instant.

Sounds like a batholins cyst. Very painful! If you have a bathtub go and sit in some hot water and see if you can get it to pop!

I've had this twice. I used capsicum/belladonna plasters on them to draw it to a head the first time. The second time it got too big and I was in agony, so I had to go to a&e. But by the time they took a look it had burst itself. They said it was a Bartholins cyst and would have lanced it had it not burst. It seemed to pop up around my period.

Had this and gp lanced it.
Blood tests showed type 2 diabetes. On medication 15 yrs and it has never come back. Antibiotics cured it at the time

You need to see a GP or gynaecologist. No way should you lance or pop it.

PurpleDaisies · 29/07/2021 23:09

Have a really low threshold for getting it looked at. You could well need antibiotics. Flowers

Bartholin cyst...they hurt like a bitch. Try hot baths. If it doesn't get better, give your GP surgery a ring.

Dear god I can only imagine what lead to them having to make that statement Shock

I was given antibiotics - but I also got tested for blood sugars, as apparently they're quite common with type 2 diabetes, which I've since been diagnosed with. But there was definitely a hormonal element too, before my period started.

GP yes, but hot flannel also. It was a weekend (isn't it always?!) I sat for ages using one like the PP above, then must have nodded off (thankfully! The pain had kept me mostly awake two nights in a row, I was exhausted) when I woke I went straight to a hot flannel again and it had obviously drawn it to a head from earlier and it released with the second compress. As others have said, the relief was immediate. I got away what I could with gentle pressure but didn't want to risk spreading any infection by squeezing, then applied antiseptic. GP prescribed antibiotics on the Monday.
Really feel for you, they're horrendous Flowers

I had this a while back. I went straight to the gp and they popped it and gave me a short course of antibiotics. I would do just that.

Report
MiamiPants · 29/07/2021 21:40

Clean needle in it just enough to break the skin.

Keep up the hot compresses.

When it pops it'll make a proper crack and will be AMAZING.

Get over to Sporner's Corner! They'll LOVE this!

Probably a Bartholin cyst and you have my sympathy. They are agonising.

I have had them twice. First burst on it's own after a hot salty bath. The second required surgery and cured the problem completely.
