Anyone have a child who cruised for ages before walking?

So DS has reached a momentous milestone today he has been cruising for 6 months and somehow despite this he is no closer to walking or standing independently.

Now granted I don't know many babies but 6 months with no attempts to walk or stand feels like an eternity. He has no interest in using a push along walker but is so confident on his feet providing he's holding onto a stationary object (even if it is only with two fingers).

I know he will get there but it would be lovely to hear from anyone else who had a child who cruised for such a long time and made no effort to walk.

Hi @CruisingChaos :) how long did it take for your DS to start walking in the end? My little one is just the same and I’m getting impatient lol!

@randomsabreuse

They don't stop that kind of antic, it's just another option for "fun" along with jumping off sofa, jumping as far as possible across the room from sofa arm and sliding down sibling's legs towards the sofa...

Yeah that sounds about accurate Grin I can't wait for him to find another 50 ways to try and kill himself. 🤣

PS those were the days. I have all these images of gorgeous wobbly babies in my head now. There is nothing else like a crawling baby. Cutest thing on earth.

Awww try not to get too nostalgic he doesn't sleep well and is generally quite a grumpy wotsit.

I'm sure I will miss him crawling when he is finally walking though. Well maybe not when he tries to crawl straight off the bed or the sofa. Grin

DS crawled at 6 months ans walked at 12.5 months
Dd1 crawled at 7 months and walked at 11 months
Dd2 crawled at 7 months and walked at 12 months.
They all cruised as soon as they could crawl.

DD - didn't sit up unaided until 9 months.

Did not walk/crawl/cruise/pull up at 1 year.

Bum shuffled from about 15/16 months.

Started a very occasional side crawl at about 17 months and started to pull up, still bum shuffled everywhere extremely speedily.

Walked holding my hands at 19 months.

Let go of my hand at 20 months and walked into a shop after her Nanna at 20 months making my jaw drop - I honestly didn't know what to do!!

At 12 - a bit lazy but otherwise normal....

@MaMaD1990

I laugh thinking back cause she was the last to walk and I had a bit of a desperate call with a friend who has 3 kids asking what I can do to help her. The next day she just stood up and walked!

I'm not going to lie I was sort of hoping the thread might of had that effect. GrinGrin

I was told that it isnt about when it happens it's about the order. So if he is crawling and then cruising that's really good. My DS didn't crawl but he cruised for a few months.

He was crawling before he started cruising and is still happy to crawl everywhere wjen not cruising so that's positive I suppose. He just needs to move onto the next stage and make the leap from crawling to walking. Grin

@Oldraver

This was DS, started cruising quite early on but never let go till he was around 18/20 months

Several posters have said similar I hope he summons up the courage before then 18/20 months seems like an eternity away. Grin

*Eventually at my IL's house she had 2 biscuits, 1 per hand, and someone on the other side of the room had another one she wanted and she walked to get it...,

Haha I could totally see that being how DS Eventually learns. Although the clever wotsit is also pretty adept at crawling with something in both hands and his mouth.

My DD cruised for months and months and months.

That's how I'm beginning to feel. His progress appears to be the same day after day after day after day. Grin It's like watching something loading with the spinning circle going round and round and round.

Neither stood independently before walking either, just got up and walked across the room one day.

Several people have said their children just magically walked one day so I shall cling to the hope that is what DS will eventually do. Smile

My DD cruised for months and months and months. Finally started walking at 17 months - they do it in their own time unfortunately. All you can do is praise and practise with them

My DC1 cruised for ages, including holding grownup hands. Eventually at my IL's house she had 2 biscuits, 1 per hand, and someone on the other side of the room had another one she wanted and she walked to get it...

She's very much cautious until she's done something then gung ho when she's decided she's got it. Very unsure on a bike, sledge, baby skis etc the first time but massively more confident once she got over the fear.

DC2 walked earlier and crashed a lot more often. Doesn't appear to learn that much from mistakes...

Both of mine cruised from 9 months and didn’t walk until a week before they were 16 months (not twins, just weirdly did both at the same time) felt like they were cruising forever. Neither stood independently before walking either, just got up and walked across the room one day.

Nope didn't let go at all! We were starting to get worried. GP said come back if he wasn't walking by 22 months.

It's mad to imagine that he didn't make any progress for so long. I'm not surprised you were starting to get worried. I would have been the same.

Would he stand independently prior to walking or did he not let go at all until he was 21 months?

Ds crawled at 7 months, couldn't sit up reliably but got himself around without help after I left him on the floor while I nipped to the loo, came back & couldn't find him until he started crying from under the table at the other end of the room. Sat up without help within a fortnight of crawling, was standing up with furniture by 8 months but didn't walk unsupported until 13 months. He could talk before he could walk.

DD cruised from 6 months, tried to walk once at 11 months and then didn't try again until 13 months. She loved pushing things around like trolleys with bricks in- even used to push her high chair round the living room!

DC1 cruised from 9 months until 21 months.

Wow that's an incredibly impressive period of time. Shock Would he stand independently prior to walking or did he not let go at all until he was 21 months?

DS is on the cusp of being 14 months old. However he is still absolutely tiny for his age.

DC1 cruised from 9 months until 21 months. Not an independent step was taken before that. But then one day, he just let go and walked perfectly across the room. No, staggering or falling on his bum. As he's grown, he has always been a cautious child!

Of my 4 sons, (3 walked at 1year ish) no3 didn’t walk unaided until 19 months. He could walk but struggled with uneven surfaces/outside etc had to hold on or hold hands would just drop to knees or sit down if nothing to hold on to. We became a bit concerned and he was reviewed by physio & is she concluded he is hyper mobile and found walking difficult abs needed extra stability. He was still very cautious on uneven flooring/outside & hated grass. He did talk very well however. The only time I found it a pest was going to the supermarket trying to carry a v heavy 19 month old and a v chubby baby to find a trolly they could both sit in, otherwise in a double buggy for longer than they may have been.
Anyway they just do what they need to do, you’d never know he didn’t walk until then now, (I was the same 20 month Walker)
