Recommend me a really good sturdy stick blender

Just that really - my old one died after many years, & I bought a new one from the local hardware shop (Russell Hobbs) - not super cheap, but it's definitely not up to the use I give it. The motor's getting really hot, & I'd like to get a better replacement & pass this one on to someone who just wants to do odd bits with it before I kill it.

You want a Bamix.

I have a Gordon Ramsey branded one, at least 10 years old, probably more, similar to the above (you can get different versions/attachments etc) and it's utterly bomb proof. Will probably outlast me and I use it all the time.

Shop around because it's the kind of thing that varies quite a lot in price, I think mine was about £100, but it could well be the only one you ever need to buy.

Brilliant, that looks like exactly what I need. Currently working my way through about 15l of tomato soup and my poor blender is struggling! (I do big batch freezing with surplus veg)

Totally agree with Bamix, you find find a better stick blender.

I have the Swissline model and really like the curly lead.

FrogFairy · 05/08/2019 23:02

You won’t find

TonTonMacoute · 05/08/2019 23:34

Another vote for Bamix. It's in a different league!

SparePantsAndLego · 05/08/2019 23:37

Another Bamix fan! I bought mine over 8 years ago and it’s still going strong. I got it in Lakeland due to their fab customer service.

StrongerThanIThought76 · 06/08/2019 05:45

Bamix. Without a moment's hesitation.

Mine was bought for me over 20 years ago. It's seen me through 2 kids weaning and I still use it 4 times a week - still going strong. They're not cheap but really worth It!

Sadik · 06/08/2019 08:26

Unanimous!

bamix too. Mine is about 24 years old so was a big investment for us at the time with two small DC and only one wage coming it. The chopping blade snapped in two last week and I thought of contacting the manufacturers to complain. However I managed to get a new blade from Amazon for £12 so I didn’t bother them!

sueelleker · 06/08/2019 10:04

I bought my Bamix at the Ideal Home Show 20 years ago, and it's still going strong. Worth ever penny/pound.

OK people, one more question. Is it worth having the grinder attachment / different blades (for example this set) or are they a pain to change?

I think I would use the grinder (for herbs/nuts) if it was quick & easy to put on & off, so potentially worth while?

That is a similar set to mine. Dead easy to change the fittings and use the grinder attachment - though I guess they'll have improved/redesigned it since I got mine.

I'd love to invest in the slicey attachment but it's still about £100...

Have you got a Lakeland near you OP? Might be worth a visit to have a play?

BarbaraofSeville · 07/08/2019 21:49

Yes to both questions.

The attachments just pull on and off instantly.

That set is exactly what I have except mine has a Gordon Ramsay signature on because that was what was available at the time.

The grinder attachment is quite small, like a squat mug, but is good for finely mushing an onion, grinding spices, turning granulated sugar into caster or icing sugar, blending small amounts, eg baby food.

Usingmyindoorvoice · 07/08/2019 21:51

Bamix vote here too!

BarbaraofSeville · 07/08/2019 21:52

Glad to see all the Bamix love.

DP was a bit Hmm when I bought it but he appreciates quality engineering and affectionately calls it the atom smasher.

Usingmyindoorvoice · 07/08/2019 21:52

And do get the grinder, such a handy gadget

Sadik · 07/08/2019 22:03

Small is a good thing Barbara - mostly just want to do a handful of nuts or similar so something that will tuck in a drawer would be perfect.

Probably fortunately for both my cupboard space and my bank balance I am not near a Lakeland!

We've got one called an Igenix which is good. No idea how much it cost. Suspect it's a trade one.

DeRigueurMortis · 07/08/2019 22:19

Another Bamix fan.

I also bought the slicesy (mini food processor attachment that will chop/slice/grate - comes with 3 blades) with it also. It's made my big kitchen aid food processor pretty redundant unless I'm cooking in volume.

www.google.co.uk/search?q=bamix+slicesy&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari#lbl=OVERVIEW&pie=plaji-i

I also have the grinder (which I use for spices) and 3 other blades (whip, grind, blend etc). They take seconds to change and store on the stand it comes with (which you can attach to the wall).

It's brilliant. Really powerful and the slicesy is great as well (especially when you want to process small amounts, though it's capacity is actually pretty generous).

Takes up so little space (i have it on the wall with the attachment it comes with) so it's in contant use.

Makes lovely mayo very quickly (there's an all in one method you can google that takes seconds).

Mines 6 years old and good as new. Had a Braun stick before but the Bamix is in a different league.
