I’d totally wear it again!

Yes wear same again and have a fab time at the wedding, knowing that anyone who judges you for wearing same outfit has an incredibly boring outlook on life. Keep your focus on letting the bride and groom know that you appreciate being invited to share their joy, their ceremony and celebrations

“OH and I both have small familes and an even smaller group of friends.”

Us too but like I said we’re not in the UK so it’s not really the same.

Also, I have the kind of friends and family who wouldn't notice that I wore the same outfit twice. I guess we aren't a fashion focused lot Grin

IAmAlwaysLikeThis OH and I both have small familes and an even smaller group of friends. Also, in my expereince, weddings 30+ years ago tended to be more family affairs than mostly friends.

Pity, because I love a good wedding.

Yes, I'd wear the same outfit multiple times. I can't afford to buy new clothes for every single social occasion, especially not someone else's big day where the focus should be on the couple getting married. Nor would I worry about wearing the same shoes and using the same bag every time. If anyone commented, I'd happily tell them that I couldn't afford to buy single wear clothing.

“How do you know so many people? I am 60 and have probably been to about 10 weddings in my life.“

Not in the UK. where we are, you get invited to weddings of people you haven’t seen for 20 years. There were upward of 600 people at mine!

"We typically go to 10 or so weddings in a year."

How do you know so many people? I am 60 and have probably been to about 10 weddings in my life.

Early thirties = Peak Wedding. 10 weddings a year is not unusual for a period of a few years. Its a fucking nightmare TBH.

As in the same outfit they wore 10 years ago, not that they both wore the same as each other.

A friend posted a nice photo on FB the other week - him and a female cousin together, at two family weddings, a decade apart, both of them in the same outfit! I thought that was lovely.

Yes 100%

There is nothing wrong with wearing the same dress to weddings within the same circle of friends/family.

I find 'OMG I could never wear the same outfit twice" people to generally be wasteful in other areas of their life and quite shallow. As if anyone else cares that YOU as a guest already wore that outfit once before.

^ I'm not that daft, in 'discussions of the day' it just says Two weddings - same dress?

Report
brizzledrizzle · 09/01/2019 04:39

Yes, no reason why not. When I saw the thread title I thought for a second that you meant the same wedding dress at two weddings Blush
Clearly comprehension is not my strong point when I should still be asleep.

I think it sends a nice message - it's quite a classy thing to do these days isn't it, making the point against disposable fashion?

Unless it's bright red/neon and you're in ALL of the photos........

Absolutely. I doubt anyone would notice on the day, and I doubt many people would be comparing photos, and even if they did notice so what?

Oh talking if hats, my great auntie had a particular hat that she wore to every single family occasion for 20 years.

We used to take bets on it as kids - will Auntie X be wearing The Hat!

My mum wore her beautiful Mother of the Bride outfit twice!

I was getting married in August and she bought it in May.
But my brother got married at very short notice in May, so she wore it. I was a little put out, as it had been bought for my wedding. But it was lovely and expensive and I totally understood why she did. She did take the hat and jacket off for the photos for his, so that she looks differnet in the photos, but actually it really didn't matter.

It is still one of the nicest outfits I have ever seen her in, and she has good drss sense and taste!

Why would you give a shit about other people’s wedding albums?

Literally nobody will care!

I would wear the same outfit to all weddings unless i was in a very prominent position.

I'd wear again and I wouldn't even bother trying to make it look different!

I would wear the same dress for both weddings, and wear it for other occasions too if possible. say the Queens garden party !! its quite mad to be spending lots of money and buying something new for short time wear of things.

It wouldn't worry me if I saw you wearing the same outfit to both weddings. It's more imporant that you're there for the happy couple and hopefully we'd have a good catch up ourselves (assuming I was invited of course!).

That's fine and lovely for you VenusClapTrap but the Op wouldn't be asking if she felt the same as you. It appears she has concerns about wearing the same frock twice.

Interesting that there is a lot of talk on this thread about ‘fretting’, feeling ‘pressured’, and wearing the same outfit being ‘an issue’. One pp even suggests that buying a new outfit would be ‘competing’ with the bride.

I just wear different outfits to weddings because I like dresses. I enjoy the opportunity to wear something different. I don’t feel pressured, or fret, or think it’s an issue. I’m not judging other people who wear the same thing.

It’s also not the same as saying I only wear an outfit once; I keep dresses a decade or more and wear them many times for different sorts of smart occasions. But if I had a series of weddings close together I’d wear different outfits, because to me it’s an enjoyable opportunity to do so.
