Can I give my cleaner a velvetiser?

I’m guilty of overthinking this…

Our cleaner is amazing, reliable and has helped out with a tough year whilst I’ve had multiple operations. She has gone above and beyond, think things like pet sitting (paid) and more.

Her and her children love our hotel chocolat velvetiser and I would love to get them one for Christmas to show my/our appreciation but I’m not sure if it’s an OTT gift. I did consider getting a velvetiser dupe but I’m struggling to find the Aldi or Asda ones online (and I can’t go out to the shops because of my most recent surgery).

I don’t want to make her feel uncomfortable with an ‘extravagant’ gift.

Am I overthinking this? It will bring so much joy to her and her children. I would of course give some hot chocolates too

I was a cleaner, and my clients often gave me gifts at Christmas, (including once, a genuine Radley purse) which I appreciated. The best though, was a small box of chocolates and a tenner from a 90 year old lady. Not because of the gift, but because of the note she included, thanking me for all I had done for her.
I think your cleaner will appreciate anything you give her if you tell her how much you have appreciated her help.

Great idea I think it's a lovely present and will give something for her whole family to enjoy.

Definitely not the dupe
But cash would be better

@spotcheck

Grey???!!!!???

Surely black!!!

Definitely this. The grey one wouldn't match anything if kettle, toaster etc are black.

It's a lovely idea OP and I definitely think you should get her one

I'm not sure. There's a difference between her loving a treat of a hot choc from one at yours and actually wanting her own velvetiser.

I’d go for the grey it’s lovely!

You could consider the subscription, I’ve heard it doesn’t work out much more costly

Really lovely idea. I think it would be weird to get her a dupe.

Appliances are always a bad idea unless directly requested by the recipient. Has she got space to store it?
You're buying the hot choco pods but they'll soon run out.

She could probably sell if she doesn't want it but too much faff IMO. Get her a hamper or vouchers

I would give her cash - enough for the velvetiser but let her choose.

I think it's a lovely idea! But she would probably prefer cash.

Yes, get her the HC Velvetiser and dime hit chocs.

They say use HC choc, but they would say that, wouldn’t they? You can use any.

Maybe she would prefer the cash?

I am sure she would love the velveteen if they like yours but maybe some of that is because it is a treat. I am not sure what it is but can see easily afford whatever you need to buy for it. Might she look at it and think if she was spending this much I would rather have had X

Just one thought though: do you usually give her a Christmas cash bonus / extra hour or whatever? In which case she might be hoping to make allowances for bonuses in her Christmas budget. Is the Velvetiser an extra to say thanks for her extra support and reliability?

Yes! The grey. But include a gift receipt x

I think it's a lovely idea and I'm stealing it for our cleaner. But I think you would perhaps need to do the subscription too otherwise it might just end up in a cupboard because she can't really afford the pods?

I think it’s a great gift, much better than buying her something that might not get used. I’m always happy to spend a bit extra knowing it’s going to be something someone wants. I’m sure she will love it.

No. I oooh-ed and ahh-ed over a friend's Velvetiser - just being polite, and the hot choc was delicious - but all the time thinking, "OMG glad I don't have one - would clutter up my kitchen, cost a fortune and all that fiddly cleaning".

Give her cash or vouchers.

Even better a Hotel Chocolat gift card? She has the option then if she wants a velevetiser or giant boxes of chocolates.

I know which one I'd choose Grin

I think it would be a lovely gift - I would give to her and her children, with lots of the hot choc mix

@OneEpisode

I would stick to cash. I admire other people’s things without wanting it myself, and I’d love that my kids were given an occasional nice hot choc, but I wouldn’t want them to have hot choc all the time at home.

Yes give cash. When I was a skint single parent there were many things that other people had that I coveted but not enough to use the resources I had to actually buy them. If she really ,really wants one she has the means to buy it but it is her choice. It may we be a fun thing for 5 minutes and then end up in a cupboard like all the other single function gadgets out there .

@OhamIreally

Do you normally give her money at Christmas or a gift OP? Just thinking that if you normally give her money she may have factored that into her Christmas plans to some extent.
Otherwise the velvetiser sounds perfect and yes, get the real one and some sachets.

Id be worried about this.

I’d get her a voucher or something else. I admire my friend’s velvetiser but I wouldn’t want one myself.
