Can employer do this?

Looking for some advice on this.
For most of 2020, like many others I was furloughed from my company during the pandemic before eventually being made redundant with the reason being the company wasn’t making enough money to pay my salary.

However 4 months on, my employer is now recruiting again for my position.

I was lucky enough to find another job but I was wondering if my old employer can do this? Surely they could have kept me on furlough until the business picked up again?

When exactly were you made redundant?

A lot of companies made redundancies between August - October when they started having to subsidise furlough. Especially September and October when they had to contribute 10% and 20% respectively.

Unfortunately there is no time period that has to elapse after redundancy before a company can recruit again if thre is a genuine upturn in business.

I was made redundant at end of October last year yet now they are recruiting again for the exact same position.

I would say that is quite reasonable, they are allowed to grow again if they think things have picked up.
