Salary discussions

Looking for views on my situation.
Following end of furlough, I was entered into a redundancy consultation and opted for voluntary redundancy.

Through personal contacts I have a job offer on the table which I am so pleased about.

There has been discussion about the salary. They asked me what my salary expectation was. The figure I said was higher than the job I just left.

They said they couldn't offer as high as that. The figure they can offer is still more than my old job and one I would be happy to accept.

Just wondering how that might reflect on me if I took the job? Would they think I have sold myself short or that I have compromised?

Not gone through a recruiter so there is no one else to be a buffer between me and employer.

I think they will see that you have met them half way. I would definitely take it. It’s still better than your old jobs pay. Well done on the new job :)

Thank you 🙂
I am grateful I have a job at all in these times. DH thinks I may have gone in too high, I've accepted £6k less but that's ok with me.

Salary negotiations are normal.

@TurkMama

Salary negotiations are normal.

Agree, don't over-personalise them. Men quite often negotiate harder and deliver less. You could ask for another £1-3k if you felt the role deserved it.
