After several years my line manager has been demoted

Oh my! he is a horrible human being every "ist" you can think of and he's been demoted. But he does not accept it - at all. He rung me up to tell me that with the reorganisation he would still be managing me. Not realising that on the day he got demoted, I got promoted and I'd been very involved in the reorganisation. Having had to conduct redundancy interviews and so on. I had to be on an NDA for that and he wasn't told of my involvement, even though he was ringing me frequently to ask if I was on the redundancy list, or If I knew who was. Well I did and I knew what position he had been offered to interview for, which I recused myself from. Currently, he's whining to any one who will listen that its unfair and has decided its my fault. I SMH at that because he has hurt and stressed a lot of people and its always quite difficult to work out if he's very incompetent or malicious - I think both really. Before you dive in and ask why wasn't he let go at all, well its always complicated at work. Some of the thinks he's said to me, I've just brushed it off and don't want the hassle of HR. Its pretty much the same with others. Anyway in my new role, I'm trying to ensure that he never comes near me or my people ever again. I'm now part of the project & work allocation team, ensuring that my area is represented and that the right people are notified in a timely manner to do the project planning and resource allocation. And I'm going to have a full on hidden agenda to make sure he's never assigned anywhere near me in particular - that's not how work should be but it is. I think I am quite well thought of by the upper echelons of the business, because I'm helpful, supportive and taken responsibility as well as being totally overloaded with work. And frankly I like the CEO, CIO and CFO they are really decent people and their management team is too. I think the next few weeks are going to be really difficult during the transition, with him trying to treat me like dirt and being the big "I am" and trying to find a way to blame me for everything and saying that I'm the one who is incompetent, because thats what he needs to do to maintain his own delusion I'd love to list some of the asinine and nasty things he's done to me and others, but I've written enough already. what are your thoughs about this
