Made redundant and not sure what to do

What would u do? I was meant to return back to work end of March where my then 10 month old would start nursery. I was made redundant but got a generous settlement agreement seeing me until the end of the year December 2020. As it’s getting closer to him starting nursery I don’t know if I’d want to put him in anymore, id want to spend more time with him... he will only go for 2 full days anyway as I’d want to work part time and I have help from family. It’s such a high demand nursery where the waiting list was 1 year to get his place. If I extend his start date I’d get charged the deposit but I don’t mind... just torn between two!

I didn't understand the OP. Do you have a new job to go to? Any other income coming into the home apart from redundancy pay? Generally, I would say get back into the workplace so that there isn't a long gap on your CV.

I would still send him - both so that he has the opportunity to interact with other children and doesn’t become clingy but also to give you some time to focus on you

Happened to me

Brought my CV up to date and started looking for jobs, even though I was I did not tick all their boxes

Got a fair bit of interview practice and fine tuned my CV and my bolstered my confidence having interviews.

Good luck with whatever you decide but December 2020 will be upon you before you know it

You could use the 2 days to do your CV and look for a new job? Do you think you will land a job very quickly?

Hi @DianaT1969... my maternity ends end of March. I don’t have another job. The redundancy pay is equivalent to 9 months so I would still have income as if I were working until dec 2020.

Thanks @Blondie1984. I do think that it’ll be good for his social interaction, as whenever he sees a baby/kid he always has a big smile on his face. I’m just worried about him getting ill all the time and his weak immune system at a young age. I also feel guilty putting my young baby into nursery when I can still be there to spend more time with him.

@NotGenerationAlpha I thought exactly this, to look for jobs when he’s at nursery for 2 days as I’ll be so bored at home! I work as an assistant accountant and always have found a job easily. However as I want to work part time I’m not sure it’ll be as easy....

As it’s just 2 days I would send him - you never know when you might get a job.
