I am coming to the end of a temporary promotion and due to return to my substantive post. Due to various complicated issues, it seems as though this will not be possible, and the director in charge has asked me to come in for a meeting on Monday. I guess they will suggest an alternative post.

I had been due to meet a friend (we work for the same org) for coffee on Monday and she messaged me yesterday asking if it still suited. I wrote back to say yes but that I had a meeting with Director at a certain time. She wrote back to say she knew about me meeting director as X had told her. I don't know X apart from just to see, but he is a friend of hers. He has no involvement in my situation, and I am baffled as to how he knew about this private meeting. I am guessing he overheard someone mention it. He has literally nothing to do with me, my current team or the director I am meeting on Monday.

I am really unhappy that he told my friend about the meeting. Like really unhappy and quite angry actually. I feel like it was not his information to spread and he is taking away my right to choose who I share this info with. Am I right to feel uneasy/ upset or should I just get over it? I have told my friend how I feel and I don't know if I should let it drop or take it further.

I mean it isn't good but maybe the director was asked if they could do something and the director responded with "I can't sorry i'm meeting with Annoyedbyworkgossip"

Did they know what the meeting was about or just that it was happening?
