Advice on finding new clients (audio transcription)

Hi All,

I freelance audio type from home a couple of regular clients. They are mainly property inventory companies and solicitors. I specialise in legal transcription as I studied law at university and worked for a busy law firm for a few years.

I am actively looking for new clients but would consider agency work too.

I have no medical experience so Dict8 is out. Is there a similar agency for property or legal work?

I am finding approaching companies directly to be fruitless as they either use in-house typists or simply do not respond. Any ideas on how I could build up my clients please?

Thanks in advance!

If you're looking for agencies, UK Transcription is a good one, as is Type Out. They pay better than some others I work for. I wouldn't recommend Take Note though. They're a lovely company, but the deadlines are tight, and you get paid about 47p a minute I think for a standard 2-3 speaker, which is way below what others pay. Plus you often get some really, really bad quality ones, which they don't pay you extra for.

I've heard someone say they get paid through an agency £1.10 for focus group files, which seems really good, but I have no idea who they are unfortunately.

Have you tried contacting any if the six companies that are approved to transcribe court proceedings? Details in p.4 of this: formfinder.hmctsformfinder.justice.gov.uk/ex107gn-eng.pdf

It is better to create your own website, to promote yourself. You can take some ideas from similar websites like audio to text converter Audext audext.com/ and create something similar
