Had an idea for an app

Asked friends and everyone so far said they would love to use it and be prepared to pay for it.
Very excited but I am nearly 50, have a family member that can do a logo, another one is learning programming so said he thinks he knows how to go about it (but doen't sound confident). Managed to buy highly appropriate web domains :)
Obviously I can't tell you idea but where the heck do I begin?

Well, app development is not easy. I don't think it is feasible for somebody who is just learning programming.

Depending on your angle, is it educational, gaming, puzzles, text based? I would be looking for companies who have developed similar.

I'd protect my intellectual property and then I'd start canvassing.

A logo and perhaps some artistic mockups/walkthroughs would probably be helpful. If you have somebody mock an app for you- it still has to be good as no matter how good the idea is- if the app is bad it'll flop and people often can't see past that.

I work for a digital agency (apps, websites, social media, ads etc)

I'm not entirely sure on the whole process but...

  • Clients come in chat, drink coffee, figure out the first iteration, what its going to do, how its going to work, draw on walls etc (many times)
  • Someone then designs the app, logic, wireframes, pretty designs
  • Revisions
  • More designs
  • Proof of concepts get made
  • Eventually when stuffs signed off the app/website goes into production
  • Developers make the product (this is what I do)
  • Testing
  • More Testing
  • Bug fixes
  • Clients get to play
  • Bug Fixes
  • Alpha and Beta testing
  • Bug Fixes
  • Done (eventually)

The "family member that can do a logo" what do they actually do? If they are a designer would they be willing/able to do all the design work (iOS & android are different)?

The "one [who] is learning programming"... erm... what language? iOS, Android and Web are all different. Once good at one language you can sometimes transition into another. Its easy to fuck up, though, and security and robustness is v. important. What kind of app is it?

Usually, unless you really have the skills to make the app/website you end up paying someone who knows what they are doing and that will cost, a lot.

Hmm. Are you absolutely sure this doesn't exist already? I also know enough about apps that it will be expensive to make if you don't have the skills yourself, it's not just like making a website. Does it have to be an app? Can it just be a website that you might look at primarily on your phone?

MrsJasmin depending on what it does a website can be just a hard to make as an app.
