How would I go about finding someone to provide advice/handholding/support in setting up a website?

I have the website set up at wordpress.org, and it's functioning, and I've managed to just about get the hang of the basics. But there are some things about the way it looks and works that I feel I am going round in circles with, and a few things that I can't quite work out how to change despite spending hours reading threads on support forums.

I feel like I am trying and failing to reinvent the wheel, and even if I succeed I will still end up with a wonky cart. Confused

Otoh, I am on a very tight budget and not in a position to shell out large amounts of money for a full webdesign package.

Any suggestions for how I would go about getting someone to help me get to grips with it a bit more?

Thanks, hadn't seen reddit. But those are advice forums, and I think I've got about as far as I can with online advice, I was looking for someone who could give individual support.

Does that not exist, web-techy people who will provide hand-on support for clueless individuals to work on their own site? Confused

Well yes but you usually have to pay for anything worthwhile. Otherwise you can't rely on it to be anything other than opinion. Reddit forums are excellent for tech help and many very knowledgeable people will offer valuable advice there.

And on Reddit they will look at and critique for you too. Some are web pros with time to spare and others are just amateurs with good knowledge.

Ooh, reddit always seems a bit scary! Well, I will put my big girl pants on and give it a go... [paranoid]

If I was paying, what do think the going rate would be?

Hi, do you have a link to the website link we could look at? I am a web designer and I also have a friend of mine who built and runs my e commerce website. I could have a quick look for you and give some free pointers :)
