As the title suggests I am completely clueless!! I was always employed until I gave up work 2 years ago to become a sahm. I have being approached by someone in regards to taking on some pieces of work, my question is would it be better for her to employ me on a 0 hour contract or become self- employed? If anybody can offer any advice or things for me to consider I would very much appreciate it!

Just a couple of thoughts - who else does she employ? I.e. What are the terms and conditions, benefits package, what experience does she have as a manager/employer etc? Secondly what do you want in the longer term? If you want to work more is it worth becoming self employed so that you can build up a business with several clients once you have the confidence? If someone is approaching you to do some work you must be good at it. Also doing your own tax return and accounts for a simple business is not difficult, you just need to be organised. Good luck

If you only work for 1 client there might be some issues around whether you are actually self employed.
