Do flexible IT contracts exist? If so how do I get one?

Not sure if I have put this in the right place, but need some advice here. I am a developer, have worked in the financial IT sector for the last 14 years and went into contracting last year. I've been on a break since the beginning of this year and been thinking about getting a better work/life balance - ideally I'd like to get work where I can manage the time myself, have flexible hours and the option of working remotely. Does such a thing exist or am I kidding myself? I don't mind commuting to London but doing it on a daily basis is starting to grate.

also just started contracting, think this may be wishful thinking unfortunately. Best ive seen is 9-5 full time, one day working from home. I also know people who do short term contracts and than, say, take the summer off.

I suspect this would be the case flatmum. I am planning to find a 3 - 6 month contract and take time out between. I've heard occasionally of remote contracts but they do seem very rare.
