Anneliese Dodds as secretary, Taiwo Owatemi as Minister.

Any good? Or completely captured?

Not really much information out there. Have seen this on twitter from 2020:

twitter.com/Alexa_Kantor/status/1284045684358946816?s=20

"I've received such a great email from
@AnnelieseDodds
supporting trans rights.

It's so reassuring to know that, in Oxford East, our MP recognises that #TransRightsAreHumanRights.

Thank you."

"Trans Rights Are Human Rights" is what you say when you want to say nothing, and specifically not to say TWAW/TMAM whilst not not saying it.

Taiwo is my MP, she seems very nice, she's pretty new to the job.
She's got a medical background, I believe she's an oncology pharmacist or similar, hopefully she's therefore well aware of the difference between sex & gender!

There's also this article on LGBTI rights from 2015 by Dodds.

It's Pink News so providing archive link for those who don't want to give them clicks.

Thanks for the archive link.

Interesting. Didn't mention self-ID and did actually say the word lesbian.

I saw that. Would she meet with you, do you think?

Ah it seems they have been given the job cos a) no one else wants it and b) no one thinks they will be guilty of wrong think but will parrot TWAW. Labour are hell bent on not learning aren’t they

Oh there's no way anyone wants that shitty stick. They were running for cover so fast they tossed backbenchers on the dispatch box.

Bit of a poisoned chalice - Dodds was Shadow Chancellor so maybe she's been promised one of the bigger posts down the line if she'll just get them through the conference season as Shadow Equalities Minister.

Doddsie does have a reputation for being ambitious. Shall we say?

Report
Fariha31 · 22/09/2021 10:54

So they've basically shoved in an absolute nubee who's to nieve to realise they're being set up and someone so ambitious they'll do anything to advance themselfs on a promise of something better down the line.
And Labour wonder why noone votes for them.
Its a mystery all right.

I don't know that you can call Dodds an absolute newbie, she was Shadow Chancellor for a while. But perhaps you are referring to Taiwo as the junior shadow minister.
Unfortunately Starmer seems to be more interested in internal rule changes and witchhunts against his own party's left rather than addressing the real issues.

Report
Jaysmith71 · 22/09/2021 11:09

Like a bad general, Starmer is obsessed with not losing the last war. He's out to neuter the Corbynistas and can't see how the party is losing its core vote because ordinary working people see it as a Hampstead Dinner Party Party.

The Independent is saying Keir Starmer backs excluding trans women from some women-only spaces:

There's a reasonable compromise on offer and it appears Labour is reaching it.

Suspect that other than on the real fringes most party members have accepted that you can't take the whip away from Labour MPs who think women have cervixes.

So commit the party to maintaining single sex spaces where they are most uncontentious - such as rape crisis centers - and defy the rest.

Thanks for linking to this. Not for women or equality then

Seems not no.

Not a surprise from Labour but no less disappointing.

Report

That's an excellent response and what a contrast to see a factual, researched and evidenced letter from the LGB Alliance in response to a shameful, smearing, inaccurate and anti women letter from an MP
