I am always fascinated by these arguments - and this is an interesting article -

I wonder how the existing research and narrative around the development of human civilization i.e the linear progression from hunter-gatherer to agricultural and fixed dwelling, considers some recent findings that can challenge some of those long-held ideas....

This is a fairly long, but good article. I've not come across much discussion of it elsewhere.
