Alison Moyet deletes thread about her experience attending a women's meeting

It was a perfectly polite and reasonable thread about her attendance at the Women's Place meeting at the Labour Party Conference last September in which mostly left wing women talked about their rights, while mostly men and young girls tried to smash the room's windows as the police stood by doing nothing.

And it looks like she's been bullied into deleting it.

Oh damn. I hope she comes back to it. Maybe she needs some more time.

Despicable. I saw the thread shortly after she posted it and wondered what reaction she would get. She was clearly nervous about saying what she did. I hadn't heard previously that she attended the infamous meeting (infamous for the behaviour of those outside, I hasten to add).

So sad. I can't blame her, her post shows how nervous she was at the time and trolling is awful. Come on Mumsnet Alison, lots of love, support and anonymity 💐

The reaction to it was very much mostly positive, but there were a few of the usual suspects, and I think she just couldn't be bothered to expend energy arguing the toss with wankers who read her thread and thought it was appropriate to interrogate her to find out if she deserved to be intimidated when meeting feminists. Can't say I blame her.

I think she does delete threads sometimes, not because she's bullied but because she doesn't want to get bogged down in a particular conversation. I'm sure she can stand up to bullying. People who survive longterm in the music business are usually mentally tough.

She gave notice of when she was going to delete it and explicitly told people they could take screenshots while it was still up. So she wasn't going back on anything she'd written, more as other posters have said, not wanting to get dragged into replies that would go on for days.

It was a really heartfelt thread and you could tell it was wringing her out just to write it. Flowers

She’s fab & as PP says she isn’t backing down she just gets tired of the replies.

Good for her for standing up, speaking out and controlling her own twitter feed.

I saw her years ago walking around Basildon. Couldn't believe it was her but it was. Too shy to say hi though!

Great thread by Alison.

She didn’t back down either, she didn’t retract anything. If anything the nasty responses rather prove her point , no?
